The Chant Trophy Guide and Road Map for PlayStation 5
Welcome to our The Chant Trophy Guide. The Chant is an indie game that combines classic Folk Horror—i.e. The Wicker Man—with the ever mystifying Cosmic Horror—think any H.P. Lovecraft story—in a compelling fashion. When a midnight ritual goes awry players must help Jess correct course and put an end to night’s distressing turn of events. In order to do so you must craft makeshift weapons to ward off the cosmic horrors threating you, find keys and solve puzzles to open up needlessly complicated lock mechanisms on doors, as well knowing when to run and when to fight.
The Chant’s trophy list is very much no nonsense in its approach. There are three total endings which are tied to your stats with your highest one being the deciding factor for the ending you are given. Almost everything you do will influence your stats from reading Lore Notes (Mind stat only) and using consumable items though the biggest boost to your stats will come from conversations. Although there are few in The Chant, when conversing with a character Jess can reply in one of three ways with each way being related to a stat. In order to view all three endings players will need to complete three playthroughs.
Aside from viewing all endings players will need to track down all 61 Lore Notes as well as the 10 Projector Reels which should be no problem at all with our The Chant Collectible Guide. There are some tolerable combat related trophies for killing an amount of a certain type of enemy which you can attempt in any playthrough except your no-kill speedrun as there is a trophy for killing zero Cultists.
Lastly, there is a trophy finishing The Chant on the hardest difficulty known as Magister. This isn’t as tough as it sounds especially if you’ve played a survival horror game before.
Phase One – Finish the Game on Magister Difficulty with High Mind Stat & All Collectibles
To begin our The Chant Trophy Guide you should just eat the frog and start your first playthrough on Magister difficulty. While you play The Chant it’s advised to get the Mind Ending since you should also collect all the Lore Notes and Projector Reels and reading notes in The Chant awards you with Mind experience. It’s also advised that you try get some of the combat-related trophies in this phase in order to cut down your workload in the next one.
The Chant also features some chapter-specific trophies which you can attempt in any playthrough though it’s again better if you attempt them in this phase to cut down your work later.
While you play through The Chant make sure you select the Mind option in every conversation in order to give your Mind stat a huge boost and secure the Mind Ending.
Lastly, you can track everything in the pause menu and selecting “stats”.
Chapter-Specific Trophies
Cuisses De Grenouille
Find and kill the hidden Giant Cankertoad
At the end of Chapter 3 you will be making your way back to the Commune after fixing the windmill outside the mine. Instead of following the game’s hints and using the Gloom Portals to get back to the commune, enter the white building to the right of where you find the portals and cut through it. There will be a waterfall next to a bridge which leads to a hidden Cankertoad boss. This is easily missable as you don’t need to go here for any story reasons. Though, if you’re following along with our Collectible Guide then you will end up here to pick up Lore Note #24. Either way, make sure you visit this hidden boss and kill it before you close out Chapter 3 and Cuisses De Grenouille will unlock.
Alchemist
Complete the Alchemical Plant Puzzle without making Alchemical Mulch
During Chapter 5 Hannah and Jess will find themselves in an old greenhouse with their path blocked by seemingly invincible plants. In order to remove these plants Jess will need to create a concoction from the plants available in the greenhouse. To unlock Alchemist you will need to solve the puzzle without making a mistake. It’s safer to not interact with anything inside the greenhouse except from collectibles until you have the valve from the farmstead opposite the greenhouse to limit any issues that might void the trophy. Follow the solution on the paper Hannah gave you or see the solution below.
Item 1 | Item 2 | Combination Result |
---|---|---|
Glowing Plant | Crystalline Plant | Glowing Crystal Powder |
Odorous Plant | Toxic Dripping Plant | Corrosive Mixture |
Glowing Crystal Powder | Corrosive Mixture | Plant Dissolving Solution |
You have chosen… Wisely
Complete the Rafters puzzle without falling
In Chapter 5 you will reach an attic with 4 sets of rafters that you must cross with the first set only having one rafter; the other 3 have 3 rafters each. You will need to cross them without falling through them in order to unlock You Have Chosen… Wisely. After the first rafter you cross you will have to decide between crossing the left, middle, or right rafter to continue to the next set. The solution is Middle (only choice), Left, Right, Left.
Miscellaneous Trophies
These are the trophies that might not unlock naturally for you during your phase one playthrough and as such it is advised that you take a minute to look them over and make a conscious effort to unlock them as you progress.
Scavenger
Open 15 cabinets
In The Chant you can open various containers such as red toolboxes, lockers, and cabinets; all of which contain some sort of resource, collectible, or nothing at all. To unlock Scavenger you just need to open 15 of them. If you’ve been opening everything as you go then this trophy should unlock during the mine section in Chapter 3.
Tools of Consecration
Deplete 20 throwables
This trophy is a bit misleading as it doesn’t seem to be exclusive to just throwables. Tools of Consecration unlocked for me when my Witch Stick—a melee weapon—broke during a boss fight. In fact I hadn’t used throwables much at all at this point so it was very unlikely I had actually depleted 20 of them. This could be a rare instance of a bugged trophy working in our favour or it could be working as intended; either way you should routinely use your crafted throwables by pressing .

Pick up all Lore Notes
In The Chant there are 61 total Lore Notes that you can find and read. Lore Notes are always glowing a shade of yellow with particles emanating from them which makes them easy to see from a distance. See our The Chant Collectible Guide for the location of all 61 Lore Notes.
Film Festival
Find all Projector Reels
In The Chant there are 10 total Projector Reels that you can find and watch. Just like the Lore Notes, Projector Reels are always glowing a shade of yellow with particles emanating from them which makes them easy to see from a distance. See our The Chant Collectible Guide for the location of all 10 Projector Reels.
Rooted in Reality
Destroy 15 Mandacores
Since there are a total of 15 Mandacores in The Chant I’ve listed Rooted in Reality as a collectible as they’re not always on the main path. To find and destroy all 15 Mandacores you can follow along with our The Chant Collectible Guide.
Unmissable Trophies
Resourceful
Collect the resources needed to craft your first weapon
During the early minutes of The Chant you will be hiking through the woods when Kim, the character you’ve been following, tells you to go look for some twine in order for her to show you a “trick” to get rid of some flies. The path to the right leads to some twine hidden behind a fallen tree. You have to pick this up to progress which makes Resourceful the first trophy you’ll unlock.

Items, Crafting, and Ability Trophies
Raw Veganism
Consume 30 healing items
When playing The Chant you will regularly pick up Lavender, Ginger, and Spirit Cap which will refill your Mind, Body, and Spirit meters respectively. to unlock Raw Veganism you should do this 30 times which will likely come naturally to most players.
Thaumaturgy
Craft 30 items
Crafting is important in The Chant as there are very little pre=made weapons laying around for you to pick up so you should have no problem unlocking Thaumaturgy.
Prismic Focus
Use prism abilities 30 times
In The Chant when you collect a prism you will unlock an ability related to that prism. You can then hold to select an ability—when you have multiple—and tap to use your selected ability. To unlock Prismic Focus you need to use an ability 30 times.
Stalwart Psychosis
Succeed on 20 Mind Attacks
Enemies in The Chant have an attack called “Mind Attack” which displays a white pattern above Jess’ head, slows her down, and reduces her Mind meter if left un-countered. To counter a Mind Attack you have to press in time. To unlock Stalwart Psychosis you have to successfully counter 20 Mind Attacks which is almost guaranteed to unlock naturally during your first playthrough as every enemy will attempt a Mind Attack at least once during a fight.
Self-help
Completely upgrade one of the Mind, Body, or Spirit upgrade trees
The upgrade tree in The Chant is very simple. Each stat has a branch of their own which has hybrid skills that connect them. Fully upgrading a skill tree is as simple as collecting spirit shards and upgrading the single branch associated with one of the main stats. For example, the Mind branch has two skills going up in a vertical line which you can upgrade three times each. The first upgrade needs 1 spirit shard, the second requires 3, and the third requires 5 which means you need a total of 18 spirit shards to fully upgrade a single branch.
Phase Two – Finish the Game with High Body Stat & Combat-Related Trophies
Moving on to Phase Two of our The Chant Trophy Guide you can focus on replaying the story though this time should be much faster since you no longer have to search for Lore Pages and Projector Reels. Instead you should focus on getting each of the combat trophies. Your main goal in this playthrough is to always reply with the Body option and kill absolutely everything you come across.
If you missed any trophies from the previous phase now is a perfect opportunity to unlock them before progressing to Phase Three.
Combat Trophies
Purge the Heretics
Defeat 40 Cultists
Cultists in The Chant are the humanoid enemies with the horned skull masks. These Cultists show up quite often and killing 40 of them before the end of the story isn’t too hard. Purge the Heretics will unlock upon killing your 40th Cultist.
Friendly Fire
Force an enemy to kill another enemy
The easiest place to unlock Friendly Fire is during the boss fight in Chapter 5. Your objective is to destroy three Prisms while defeating the gloom creatures. However, if you damage one a little bit and wait for the boss in the middle to track you with his beam you can trick him into hitting the gloom creatures with it thus forcing one enemy to kill another.
Gloom Hunter
Defeat 35 Gloom Creatures
Gloom Hunter will unlock upon killing your 35 Gloom Creature which is considered to be any creature in the gloom areas.
Calm Waters
Beat the game with Body as your highest stat
Phase Three – No Cultist Kills Speedrun with High Spirit Stat
Our last phase in our The Chant Trophy Guide will be the quickest since we’ll be doing a speedrun. By now you should know what to do in each chapter without having to stop to think about it in order to beat the game in 4 hours or less. To be truthful 4 hours is really generous as you can easily beat the game in around 2 hours even with a bit of backtracking or making mistakes.
You should also avoid killing absolutely everything except for the bosses in this playthrough in order to limit any headaches with the Savior trophy as you can easily accidentally kill Cultists when you kill a Mandacore that isn’t needed to progress the story. It’s advised that at the end of the chapter you should check your stats to see if you’ve killed any Cultists. If you have then you can restart the checkpoint or chapter via the pause menu to try again.
Pacifisft Speedrun Trophies
Summer Solstice
Complete the game in 4 hours or less
Like any speedrun in any game it’s a good idea to write down any puzzle solutions that you may struggle with such as the Pineal Orb order in Chapter 5. However, even if you spend a few extra minutes on the puzzles you can easily beat The Chant way before you reach your 4 hour limit.
Savior
Complete the game without killing any Cultists
Not killing Cultists is made considerably easier by not killing any enemy apart from the bosses.
Shh…
Beat the game with Spirit as your highest stat
