Trophy Guide

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores Trophy Guide and Road Map for PlayStation 5

Welcome to our Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores. Burning Shores is a DLC add-on for Horizon Forbidden West and as such there is no platinum to earn here, we’ll just be going for 100% DLC completion. You can earn the Forbidden West Platinum by following our Horizon Forbidden West Trophy Guide. You cannot start the events of the Burning Shores DLC until you’ve completed the Main Story, so ensure you’re done with the Base Game first.

If you have the PS4 version of Horizon Forbidden West, I’m sorry to say you won’t get to play the Burning Shores DLC. It was decided that rather than allow the PS4 to hold the DLC back technically, it would be released only on PS5, where players can fully enjoy everything the DLC and the Decima Engine have to offer.

Phase One | Main Story Quests & Machine Scans

We’ll start off our Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores Trophy Guide by having you simply focus on the Main DLC Quests. You’re free to do as many side-activities as you like along the way, as much of it will need to be mopped up later anyway.

Remember, to access the Main Quests of the Burning Shores DLC, you need to have completed the base game story. If you started a New Game Plus save and wish to use it for this DLC, then you will need to complete the story once again to access the DLC. Once the main story is complete, you’ll be contacted with a new Main Quest called “To the Burning Shores.”

Follow this questline to begin picking up trophies from the Burning Shores DLC Story.

While exploring, be sure to pick up any Burning Shores DLC Side-Quests you see along the way, as you’ll need to complete all of those at a later point in your journey, too.

One other trophy that I recommend focusing on as early as possible is All New Machines Scanned. Make sure you scan every new machine you see with your Focus, until you’ve scanned all 4 and unlocked the trophy. As each new machine will be introduced throughout the story events, you shouldn’t have any difficulty earning it here.

DLC Story Trophies

Story-Related

Story-Related

Unmissable

The “Defeated Londra and His Horus” trophy will unlock after you complete the fifth Main Story Mission in the Burning Shores DLC.

Scan All New Machines

All New Machines Scanned

Encountered and Focus scanned every new machine in the Burning Shores.

Collectible

There are four new machines to encounter in the Burning Shores DLC, all of which appear during the DLC’s Main Story Quests. You will need to scan each one with your Focus to unlock the “All New Machines Scanned” trophy.

The new machines to scan are as follows:

  • Bilegut
  • Stingspawn
  • Waterwing
  • Horus (Final Boss—Unmissable)

As noted above, the Horus Final Boss is scanned as part of the story so can’t be missed, thus you just need to look out for Bileguts, Stingspawns, and Waterwings. Scan one of each (as well as Horus) and this trophy will unlock.

Phase Two | Burning Shores Map Cleanup

In this Second Phase of our Burning Shores Trophy Guide, we’re going to get pretty much everything done. All side-quests, side-activities, collectibles, and more. Every trophy in this phase is related to map cleanup and exploration.

Collectible Trophies

Completed the Dino Digits Quiz

Recovered all Pangea Figurines and completed the Dino Digits quiz.

Collectible

There are a mere 6 Pangea Figurines to find and collect throughout the Burning Shores DLC. Once you have found and collected them all (locations below), you will receive a Quest Marker for a Dino Digits quiz, upon the completion of which you will unlock the “Completed the Dino Digits Quiz” trophy.

Let’s start with the 6 Figurine locations;

Queen Rex Figurine

Start by heading to this location on your map, where there will be a Pangea Figurine icon when you approach.

Inspect the dead Fire Fanghorn and then use your Pullcaster to break apart the rubble on the wall of the building behind the Fanghorn.

Inside, you’ll see a Shellwalker crate. Examine it and then use your Focus to highlight the Shell Walker tracks.

Follow the tracks and you will find some Widemaws and Shell Walkers.

Get rid of the machines and then search their containers at the center for this Queen Rex Figurine!

Dimorphodon Figurine

Head to the location shown below, where you’ll find the entrance to a “Fandom Zone” store with a locked door.

To enter the building, you need to find the code atop one of the nearby buildings and then use it on the console to open the door. Rather than doing all that, just go right ahead and enter 111464 into the console, this will open the door.

The Pangea Figurine is in plain sight on the ground inside.

Green Raptor Figurine

Go to the location below, where you’ll find another Fandom Zone building.

Inside, scan the “In For It” Datapoint to find out where the Figurine has been taken; a nearby parking garage.

Head to this location and then make your way down to the very bottom floor of the parking complex.

There, in the water, open the trunk of the rusted car to find the Green Raptor figurine inside!

Red Raptor Figurine

On the rooftop at the below location, activate the Firegleam source to blow a hole in the ground, giving you access to the building below.

Dive into the water and use your Focus to scan the Datapoint, which tells you more about the Red Raptor’s location.

Resurface and then fly to the mansion at this location to the east:

There, use your Waterwing’s talons with [trangle] when the prompt appears to pull the rooftop panel off the mansion.

Once done, land on the mansion and head inside to find the Red Raptor figurine awaiting you.

Reggie the Pterodactyl

Head to this location in Pangea Park, where you will find a small building at the Pangea Figurine icon.

Use your Pullcaster to open the vent on the side of the building and then pull yourself inside.

In plain sight on a counter in the building, you’ll find the Reggie Figurine!

Dino Quiz Solutions

Once you have all five figurines, go to the waypoint in Pangea Park to find a large circular arena with five consoles on the west side of it.

Start from the furthest-left console and make your way to the furthest-right (when facing the Volcano).

Enter the code “6837” to activate the console and then start making your way right to each of the other consoles. Enter the remaining codes in this order: 4331, 378, 785, 1051.

Once all five codes have been entered, you’ll be congratulated and awarded this trophy!

Cauldron THETA Core Overridden

Reached the Core of Cauldron THETA and accessed its information.

Cauldron Theta can be found on the east side of the Burning Shores map.

To get inside it, you will need to follow the lava-stream north and enter via the opening there.

Make your way to the core as you would any other Cauldron and overwrite it after defeating the Apex Bilegut at the end to complete the side-activity and unlock the Cauldron THETA trophy.

Recovered the Delvers' Trove

Recovered all Delver Trinkets and unearthed their trove.

Collectible

To unlock the “Recovered the Delvers’ Trove” trophy, you will need to find and collect all 7 Delver Trinkets. Collecting the 7th and final one will trigger the trophy unlock.

To make things easier, the below gallery contains screenshots of the map and physical locations of each Delver’s Trinket. Simply head to the location and collect the trinket to have them all before you know it!

Note that one of them is on an island that is repeatedly struck by lightning. To do anything on that island, you must first kill the Stormbird hiding in the clouds above.

For an opportunity to fight it, fly up into the cloud above and then scan it with your Focus. You’ll need to tail it for a bit before a fight can happen.

Once you have all 7 of the Delver Trinkets go to the location shown below and dig up the treasure trove to unlock the trophy.

Recovered All Aerial Captures

Discovered and completed all Aerial Captures.

Collectible

Aerial Captures are a new side-activity added in the Burning Shores DLC. When you arrive at the starting point of an Aerial Capture, there will be a broken transmitter to interact with.

Upon doing so, a ring will appear in the air at a location marked on the map. Get on your Waterwing and fly into the ring to cause a flight path to appear in mid-air.

While remaining on your Waterwing, closely follow the flight path, being careful not to deviate too far. At the end of the flight path, you’ll get a Vantage Point hologram.

There are 6 of these in total to find and complete. Use the gallery below, which details each Aerial Capture’s starting point. When you arrive, scan the environment with your focus to see a pulse indicating the transmitter’s location. Complete the first 5 and the 6th one will appear near the South:

Complete that final one and the Recovered All Aerial Captures trophy is yours!

Aided the Quen

Helped the Quen of Fleet's End recover priceless knowledge and rescue those held captive.

To unlock the “Aided the Quen” trophy, you need to complete 2 Side Quests in the Burning Shores DLC. Specifically; “In His Wake” and “The Splinter Within,” both of which become available at Green “!” icons in Fleet’s End as you progress through the Main Story Quests.

Once you’ve completed both Side Quests, the Aided the Quen trophy is yours.

Specter Gauntlet Upgraded

Fully upgraded the Specter Gauntlet.

To unlock the Specter Gauntlet Upgraded trophy, you will first need to get the Specter Gauntlet from the DLC’s Main Story quests.

You will also need to complete the Side Quest called “In His Wake.” After defeating this Quest’s boss, Pirik, loot his corpse for the Railgun Component.

Once you have it, visit any Workbench and purchase the upgrade to unlock the trophy!

All Quests Completed

Completed all main and side quests in the Burning Shores.

Cumulative

There are 6 Main Story Quests and 3 Side Quests in the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Sands DLC.

To unlock the “All Quests Completed” trophy, you will need to complete all 9 of these Quests.

The first 5 Main Story Quests are “To the Burning Shores,” “Heaven and Earth,” “The Stars in Their Eyes,” “For His Amusement,” and “His Final Act.” You will complete these in the first Phase of our Horizon Burning Shores Trophy Guide.

There is a final 6th Story Mission that then appears called “Epilogue.” You will need to complete this very short Quest too.

Two of the Side Quests, required for Aided the Quen can be started at the green “!” icons in Fleet’s End.

The final Side Quest—”A Friend in the Dark”—begins once you enter the Murmuring Hollows Ruins, which you can find here, southeast of Fleet’s End.

Use the Door Code “1315” to get inside and progress the side quest. You will also need the codes 117 and 1247 to complete the quest.

Phase Three | Misc Cleanup

With all of the “Go here and do a thing” objectives complete now, we move into a much more relaxed final phase of our Horizon Forbidden West Burning Sands Trophy Guide. Here, the name of the game is clean up.

There are just a handful of misc objectives to complete below, most of which you’ve probably already made a good start on!

Misc Gear & Level Trophies

All New Skills Learned

Learned all new skills in the Burning Shores.

Cumulative

The Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC introduces 18 new skills, 6 of which are “Valor Surge” abilities (which are unlocked by purchasing all surrounding skills. You will also need to upgrade them for a total of 8 skill points per Valor Surge.)

The new skills can all be found at the bottom of each respective Skill Tree and you will need a total of 72 Skill Points to buy them all and upgrade all Valor Surges too.

You will get the majority of the Skill Points you need from completing Quests, Side Quests, and Leveling Up.

You can actually reset your Skill Tree at any time from the Skill screen with , so if you don’t have enough Skill Points to reach and finish upgrading the Burning Shores Skills, you can just reset all of your Skill Trees and then use your Skill Points to prioritize the Burning Shores Skills. You should have way more than enough Skill Points after completing the Main Story and the DLC, you just might need to be smart about how you distribute them.

Making a backup Manual Save at a Campfire before resetting your Skill Points will allow you to return to the setup you had before once you’ve unlocked the trophy.,

Reached Level 60

Reached player level 60.

Cumulative

The trophy Journey for the H:FW Base Game requires you to reach Level 50, which was the original level cap, so you should hopefully be around Level 50 at the start of the DLC.

The DLC actually increases this level cap to 60, which you will need to reach to unlock the “Reached Level 60” trophy. Getting from Level 50 to Level 60 will occur naturally by just working your way through this trophy list.

That said, if you were lower than Level 50 when you started the DLC, you’ll end up needing to complete extra combat encounters and side quests to top up your EXP.

Used Brimshine

Used Brimshine to purchase 1 outfit and 1 weapon.

Brimshine is a new type of resource that is very difficult to find, but easy to spot once you do thanks to its brilliant yellow glow.

Brimshine looks like gold mineral formations. Similar to the Greenshine you collected in the Base Game.

You will find it mostly near Delver Trinket locations, for which you should see the Recovered the Delvers’ Trove trophy.

Once you have a total of 16 pieces of Brimshine, go to the Bow and Outfit merchants at Fleet’s End. At each merchant, be sure to buy just one of their “Legendary” (orange-coloured) gear items; thus one weapon and one outfit. They will cost 8 Brimshine and 2000-3000 Metal Shards.

Once you have one of each, the Used Brimshine trophy will unlock!

Note that—obviously—the Blacktide Quen Commander outfit doesn’t count because it doesn’t cost Brimshine to purchase.

Equipped an Elite Coil or Weave

Equipped an elite coil on a weapon or an elite weave on an outfit.

Before you can unlock “Equipped an Elite Coil or Weave” you obviously need to get an Elite Coil or Weave. Coils are mods you can apply to your weapons, whereas weaves are the same except for armor.

“Elite” Coils and Weaves are a new mod type with an orange icon color. You’ll likely get one naturally as you complete the story, Bile Guts in particular seem to carry them. You can also buy them from Merchants in the Burning Shores if you can’t get them to drop.

Once you have one Elite Coil OR Weave, open your inventory. From there, highlight a weapon if you have an Elite Coil or a piece of clothing if you have an Elite Weave. Press to open the Coil/Weave editor and then apply your new Elite mod, unlocking the trophy.

Misc Combat Trophies

Used Grapple Strike on Machines

Used Grapple Strike on 5 unique machines.

Cumulative

Before you can unlock the “Used Grapple Strike on Machines” trophy, you will first need to buy the Grapple Strike skill from the Hunter Skill Tree (required for All New Skills Learned.)

When you have purchased this skill, downed machines will have a grapple point on them (unless you are too close.) Once you have downed a machine, you can double-tap to initiate a Grapple Strike using the grapple point.

As Aloy is coming down on top of the machine, time will slow and an prompt will appear. Wait until the white ring crosses into the green ring and then press to complete the attack.

Perform this attack fully on a total of 5 unique Machines and the trophy will unlock!

Killed Machines While Gliding

Killed 5 machines with the Specter Gauntlet while gliding.

Cumulative

To unlock the “Killed Machines While Gliding” you will first need to unlock the Specter Gauntlet from the Main Story Quest “Stars in Their Eyes.”

After doing so, you will also need to buy the Glide Targeting skill from the Hunter Skill Tree (required for All New Skills Learned.)

Once you have it, you will be able to aim with the Specter Gaunlet while gliding by holding . Subsequently, you can then fire by holding .

You will need to kill a total of 5 Machines while gliding through the air using this ability to unlock this trophy.

I recommend finding a Charger Site as Chargers are very weak Machines that are very easy to take down in just a few shots. Use a Sunwing/Waterwing mount to fly back up into the air after each kill until you’ve successfully farmed all five.

Killed Bileguts and Stingspawn

Killed 5 Bileguts and 50 Stingspawn.

Cumulative

“Bileguts” are the new Toad-like enemies and “Stingspawn” are the wasp-like Machines which emerge from egg-like containers.

Typically both of these enemy types are found together, so you can just make your way around the Burning Sands map visiting each Bilegut site until you have killed enough of each machine.

You will face at least 3 Bileguts as part of the story, so should just need to farm two more at Bilegut sites.

You can then farm Stingspawn at Bilegut Sites or inside Cauldron THETA, where you’ll find them in abundance.

Once you have successfully destroyed 5 Bileguts and 50 Stingspawn, the Killed Bileguts and Stingspawn trophy will unlock.
