Trophy Guide and Road Map for Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 is a survival horror game that serves as a sequel to the critically acclaimed Alan Wake. Developed by Remedy Entertainment, this highly anticipated game follows the thrilling story of best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake. Trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years, Wake struggles to retain his sanity and beat the devil at his own game. In Alan Wake 2, players will have the opportunity to play as either Alan Wake or FBI agent Saga Anderson, each with their own separate but connected realities. The game features intense third-person shooter mechanics, limited resources, puzzles, and the ability to switch between the two protagonists. With its captivating storyline and immersive gameplay, Alan Wake 2 promises to be a must-play experience for fans of the horror genre.
Phase One - Finish Saga and Alan's Story & Find All Collectibles
For the first phase of our Alan Wake 2 Trophy Guide you can jump straight into the story knowing that every trophy can be unlocked within a single playthrough. There are no difficulty trophies nor any collectibles that only appear in a harder difficulty. Everything can be found on Story difficulty and you are even given some freedom with travelling between areas whenever you have access to your car as Saga. Similarly, for Alan you can re-enter most places in the Dark Place version of New York City. Only a few of Alan’s exclusive collectibles are truly missable. Lastly, both Saga and Alan have a Point of No Return (Return 6: Scratch for Saga, Initiation 8: Zane’s Film for Alan) that you must be aware of and make a Manual Save should you need to clean-up some last minute collectibles and/or trophies before finishing the story.
It’s recommended that you open our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide in another tab and consult it as you playthrough this phase so you don’t miss any collectibles. Alternatively, you can ignore collectibles in this playthrough—with the exception of Alan’s missable collectibles—and mop everything up before progressing beyond the Point of No Return; though I wouldn’t recommend this approach as it’s not clear which areas get locked off as you progress.
The only trophy I would consider to be truly missable is The Nice Things in Life for petting Mayor Setter. This dog will appear in only certain chapters with the very last appearance being in Return 6: Scratch. You will find and pet him if you follow along with our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide as he awards you with one of the 14 Charms needed for Rustic Charm.

Mayor Setter can appear in earlier chapters, however, Return 6 is the absolute latest you can find him so make sure you find him and pet him before you move on otherwise you’ll have to do another playthrough to pet him and collect all Charms.

Collectible Trophies

Nightmare Territory
Pick up a map
Nightmare Territory will be your first collectible-related trophy in Alan Wake 2. As you take control of Saga Anderson for the first time you will see Casey, who look strikingly similar to Sam Lake from Remedy Entertainment, stood next to a large map at the entrance to the woods. Approach the map and press on it to “pick it up”.
Although you only need to find one map for this trophy, all maps in Alan Wake 2 are covered in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.

Secret Stashes
Discover one Cult Stash and one Lunch Box
Just two of the many collectibles in Alan Wake 2 are Cult Stashes and Lunchboxes. You will need to find one of each for Secret Stashes to unlock. All Cult Stashes and Lunch Boxes are covered in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.

Bring It
Find the Sawed-Off Shotgun
Inside the General Store in the Cauldron Lake Campgrounds area is a room with a display case and a shotgun inside. You can reach this shotgun during Return 2: The Heart. Though you will need to find the code to open it before you can take the weapon. This weapon is just one of the eight total you need to collect in Alan Wake 2 and all of them are covered in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.

Carry his Words
Discover a Word of Power
Words of Power appear as a spiral of words that light up when you point your Flashlight at them. There are 27 Words of Power in Alan Wake 2, however, you only need to find 1 to unlock Carry his Words. It’s recommended you find as many as you can, if not all of them, as they act as upgrades for Alan Wake and can help you out on your journey.
Although you only need to find one Word of Power for this trophy, the rest of them are also covered in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.

Greatest Hits
Find the Crossbow
Outside the very first Break Room in Return 3: Local Girl is a Cult Stash that contains the Crossbow. See ourAlan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide for all Weapon locations.

Strange Reality
Solve five Nursery Rhyme Puzzles

Ready for a Fight

The Hunting Rifle can be found in Return 5: Old Gods. In the Wellness Center you will find a room with a missing door knob. The Hunting Rifle is inside. To acquire the door knob you need to figure out the password to the computer in the Security Office so you can unlock all doors and then head to the Staff Lounge to find the door knob. Once you’re inside the room and pick up the Hunting Rifle, Ready for a Fight will unlock. This weapon and the seven others are covered in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.

I'll Find You
Find all Nursery Rhyme dolls
Nursery Rhyme Dolls are necessary for completing Nursery Rhyme Puzzles. These dolls are almost always found within a few feet of a Nursery Rhyme Puzzle or in the immediate area. The very last doll appears after completing the 16th puzzle of 17 total puzzles. All Nursery Rhyme Doll locations can be found in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.

Shift in Reality
Complete all Nursery Rhyme Puzzles
There are a total of 17 Nursery Rhyme Puzzles in Alan Wake 2. Each puzzle is a collection of chalk drawings and a piece of paper that tells a story. You have to decipher the story and place a Nursery Rhyme Doll on the corresponding chalk drawings. Upon successfully completing a Nursery Rhyme Puzzle you are awarded with a Charm that spawns somewhere nearby. Make sure to follow our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide to find all Nursery Rhyme Puzzles.

The Trail of the Writer
Watch all the Writer's Journey videos
In Alan’s side of the story you can find TVs which will play a brief video featuring snippets of his time in The Dark Place. There are 8 total to find and they can only be found in Alan’s story. Every Writer’s Journey Video location can be found in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.

Stop Right There
Find the Pump-Action Shotgun
During Return 6: Scratch you will head back into the Police Station. While here you can pick up a new weapon once you find are given the Police Station Keys from Agent Estevez. The Pump-Action Shotgun is in Sheriff Breaker’s Office in a display case. See our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide for all Weapon locations.

All Accounted For
Find all weapons for both characters
In Alan Wake 2 there are a total of 8 weapons for Saga and Alan to find and all of them are covered in our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide.
Saga Anderson’s Exclusive Weapons:
- Pistol
- Sawed-Off Shotgun
- Crossbow
- Hunting Rifle
- Pump-Action Shotgun
Alan Wake’s Exclusive Weapons:
- Revolver
- Flare Gun
- Double-Barrelled Shotgun

Alan Wake 2 features Cult Stashes, which are locked boxes found by following Cult Logos in the forest, and Lunch Boxes which are found by following knitted decorations hanging from trees. Only Saga can find these collectibles.
Cult Stashes usually task you with solving small puzzles to decipher a combination code, searching the environment for Cult Symbols, playing a pattern memory mini-game, and even solving algebra problems.
Lunch Boxes are never locked, very easy to find, and always have Manuscript Fragments inside that Saga can use to upgrade her weapons.
Make sure to use our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide to make finding all of these easier.

Rustic Charm
Find all the Charms
All Charms in Alan Wake 2 are rewarded for completing Nursery Rhyme Puzzles. That is all except for two Charms; Logan’s Charm, and the Mayor Setter Charm. The former is already in Saga’s possession while the latter can only be acquired by petting the dog, Mayor Setter, on the stage in Suomi Hall in Watery. Mayor Setter will only appear in certain chapters (I found him at the end of Return 6: Scratch). With the help of our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide finding all 14 Charms will be easy.
Note: The Lantern Charm is given as a pre-order bonus and will be in the Shoebox waiting for you instead of being awarded for completing a Nursery Rhyme Puzzle.

The Koskela Brothers
Watch all Koskela brother commercials
There are 6 total Koksela Brother’s Commercials to find in Alan Wake 2 and all but one can be found while playing as Saga. If you are following along with our Alan Wake 2 All Collectibles Guide you won’t miss a single commercial.
Miscellaneous Trophies

Growing Stronger
Upgrade any weapon once
Whilst collecting Lunchboxes you will notice you are receiving Manuscript Fragments from them. These fragments can be used to upgrade weapons inside Saga’s Mind Place. You will need a minimum of 12 fragments for the cheapest upgrade on the pistol she carries.

Felt Good
Use a Healing Item
Taking damage in Alan Wake 2 is almost guaranteed. When you do, you can use Healing Items such as Painkillers to regain some of your health unlocking Felt Good in the process.

Grew Bigger
Upgrade the inventory's size
During Return 2: The Heart you will enter the General Store in the Cauldron Lake Campgrounds and be attacked by a Taken who bursts through a wall. After the fight, go into the room the Taken came from and you can find an inventory upgrade next to a Sawed-Off Shotgun.

Aimed Ahead
Defat five enemies with headshots
Defeating enemies with headshots is generally the best way to defeat them as it does more damage and saves on ammo so it’s recommended you try to go for exclusively headshots when you can. After killing five enemies with headshots Aimed Ahead will unlock.

Filling the Shape
Place a Charm in all of the bracelet's slots
In Alan Wake 2 Saga Anderson has in her possession a Charm Bracelet that lets her equip Charms. These Charms offer her various bonuses such as dealing more or less damage, staggering enemies more frequently and so on. The Charm Bracelet has 3 available slots and you need to put a Charm in each one to unlock Filling the Shape.

In One Go
Defeat an enemy with a single shot from the Crossbow
You need to acquire the Crossbow from a Cult Stash in Return 3: Local Girl. The stash is outside the first Break Room in the woods. Once you have the Crossbow, pick up the bolts stuck in the number cards to the right of the stash. On the main trail will be a Taken with his back to you. Press to use your Flashlight Boost and then shoot it in the head with the crossbow to kill it “in one go”.

This is the Moment
Dodge at the last minute to avoid an enemy attack
Alan Wake 2 features a dodge mapped to just like the previous game. To unlock This is the Moment you need to perform a “perfect dodge” at the last moment before the hit connects with Saga or Alan. The timing for this seems rather tight and capricious.
Note: Most of my dodges seems to be right before the attacked connected, however, the time the trophy popped for me was when I was caught off-guard and pressed at the very moment the attack connected which means I received damage anyway.

All Smiles
Fully upgrade a single weapon
In Alan Wake 2 Saga can upgrade her weapons using Manuscript Fragments that are found inside the Lunch Box collectibles. The easiest weapon to fully upgrade and possibly the earliest is the Pistol as it’s Saga’s “standard issue FBI sidearm” that she starts with. Providing you have located and found all Lunch Boxes and obtained their Manuscript Fragments the earliest you can fully upgrade the Pistol is during Return 3: Local Girl.

Coffee-Themed Fun
Shoot Mr. Drippy or any other cardboard cutout in Coffee World

Stop the Monster
Interrupt a Taken Thrower's relocation attempt with the Flashlight Boost
Taken Throwers are Taken enemies that throw weapons such as hand-axes at you. Sometimes they will attempt to “relocate” by shifting around at a high speed. When they do this you need to press to use your Flashlight Boost to stop them in their tracks. The best way I found to make this happen is to wait until you are facing a Taken Thrower is at quite a distance from you as they seem to use this relocating move to close the distance. Either way once you stop a relocation attempt with the Flashlight Boost, Stop the Monster will unlock.

Shining in the Night
Ignite a Hand Flare to keep enemies at bay
Just like in the first Alan Wake game, in Alan Wake 2 you can use flares to create a powerful light source and keep enemies at a distance. Once you have a flare in your possession, equip it and press to ignite it when enemies are close to you. You can also hold
and then press
to throw the flare once it is lit.

Gone for Good
Defeat an enemy with an explosion
In Alan Wake 2 you can acquire Propane Tanks which, when equipped, can be thrown at enemies. You then need to shoot them to make them explode. To unlock Gone for Good you need to throw a Propane Tank at an enemy, or preferably a group of enemies, and quickly shoot it to defeat them in the explosion.

Escape its Gravity
Use a Hand Flare to escape an enemy Grapple
Just like in Resident Evil 2: Remake, you can use throwables to quick escape from an enemy grapple. All you need to do is have a Hand Flare in your inventory and when an enemy grabs you, press when the prompt appears to use a Hand Flare to escape. I found the best place to attempt this is during Return 5: Old Gods. After finding the record and returning to the ground floor of the Valhalla Nursing Home Manor, an enemy will appear that likes to disappear into the ground. You can see a pulsing ring, kind of like ripples in a pond, moving around and if it gets close to you the enemy will jump out of the floor and grapple with you. There is a Break Room you can use to make a Manual Save on the 2nd floor of the Manor so you can have infinite attempt at this trophy.

Stunning Vistas
Stun an enemy with a Flashbang
Both Alan and Saga can use Flashbangs. All you need to do to stun an enemy with one is to equip it, hold and throw it with
. It will flash once it lands and stun any Taken within its range.

Back to Life
Use a Coffee Mug Charm to prevent defeat
One of the Charms in Alan Wake 2 that Saga can use is the Coffee Mug Charm. This charm is a single-use only charm that revives you with full health when you “die”. To unlock Back to Life, equip a Coffee Mug Charm and just let an enemy hit you until your health reaches zero.

Phase Two - Clean-Up
If, after the credits roll, you still don’t have the Platinum Trophy Unlocked then use Phase Two of our Alan Wake 2 Trophy Guide to go over what you might have missed and re-attempt them. Hopefully, you made a Manual Save before the Point of No Return points for both Saga and Alan to prevent a full playthrough.
