Trophy Guide

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess Trophy Guide and Road Map for PlayStation

Welcome to our Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess Trophy Guide. Kunitsu-Gami is a hack n slash game with lots of strategic mechanics that see you assigning and managing units in each stage in an attempt to keep Yoshiro from taking any damage.

You’ll make your way through a chilling Japanese landscape, purging villages and settlements of corruption via the Torii gates. There are strong influences from Japanese History, Folklore, and Spirituality, which is a dream for japanophilic weebs like myself.

The trophy journey is fairly straightforward and will require you to complete the game twice; once normally and then again on New Game Plus mode. Challenge-wise, the vast majority of the trophies are easy or come naturally, but there are several bosses and objectives you’ll need to clear which quickly become a wall if you’re not prepared or seasoned enough. All in all, most things can be overcome with practice and preparation.

I truly enjoyed this fantastic game inside and out, and I hope you find the trophy journey as enjoyable as I did.

Phase One | First Playthrough: Complete the Story

Throughout this first playthrough of Kunitsu-Gami, you really just need to focus on reaching rhe final boss and defeating them by working through each stage and boss fight (each of which has an unmissable trophy attached to it).

Along the way, you can make things go much smoother by doing the following things:

  • Repair structures in your bases. After each level you complete, you will be able to access that stage again as a “Base” by pressing on it in the Stage Selection Screen. There, you can view your collectibles and upgrade your units via the tent. Each structure you repeair will give you “Musubu” used for upgrades or collectibles like Ema Plaques and Sweets. You’ll eventually need to buy every upgrade and find every collectible so it’s well worth working on these as and when you can.
  • Replay Stages to complete optional objectives. Completing optional objectives will give you useful Muzo Talismans and more Musubi for upgrades. You don’t need to complete them all in this phase, but you will need to eventually, so it’s worth working on these between stages while waiting for repairs or just wanting to bolster your forces before a challenging Stage or Boss.
  • Open Black Chests. Some stages have Black Chests on them which need to either be dug up or unlocked by Thief units. You’ll eventually need to open them all but this will require some upgrades to the Thief unit, so just open any that you easily come across along the way, just to reduce the cleanup due later. Beige/Wicker chests are not required but do often contain useful rations or crystals.

  • Purify Animals. While exploring Stages during the day, you’ll see corrupted animals like deer and boars. You can purify them by hitting them with your sword (or later, your bow) multiple times. When purified, they drop rations which are very useful for healing yourself and your units. You’ll eventually need to purify 200 animals so it’s well-worth getting a head start on that objective.

The Great Shrine Passage is technically the final stage in the game and serves as a brutal Boss-Rush-style trial in which you must descend up the mountain’s central path, defeating several challenging bosses from earlier in the game.

Complete this long stage by defeating all 7 bosses and reaching the top of the mountain to unlock the “Purify the Great Shrine Passage” trophy.

Becoming the Spirit Stone Maiden

Defeat Nanamagari.

Story-Related

Unmissable

Nanamagari is the final boss, available on the Stage Selection screen after you Purify the Great Shrine Passage. This boss has two phases. In the first phase, you will have many villagers to help you.

I recommend this selection of units:

  • 4x Sorceror (once their attack is fully-charged, which takes a while, activate it with and they will deal massive damage to the boss)
  • 2x Spearmen
  • 2x Ninjas
  • 1x Shaman to keep your troops healed
  • The remaining units should be Archers, Cannoneers, or Marksmen, whatever your best ranged units are.

Equip gear that increases the Maximum Health of you and your villagers. Make sure that your villagers are always attacking the boss, if they stand near Yoshiro to defend her, they’ll actually get her hit via collateral damage from attacks that are targeting your villagers.

If the boss puts down electric pylons, rush to Yoshiro’s side and destroy the two closest to her so she doesn’t get hit by them. If you stun the boss quickly enough, though, you won’t have to deal with this much.

Once you defeat Nanamagari’s first form, you’ll need to fight him alone without the help of your villagers. If you die during this second phase, you can select “Continue” to return to the second phase of the fight. It will even give you an opportunity to change equipment, which you should take.

Select equipment that increases Soh’s attack power and health. You should also equip Tsuba guards that deal massive damage, especially to the enemy’s stun gauge, as stunning the boss will be the key to dealing the most damage.

This will likely take a fair amount of practice and probably a few attempts. If you find yourself struggling too much, you may want to go and collect Musubi by completing optional objectives in previous stages or fixing up bases and then using that Musubi to upgrade your units/Soh.

Phase Two | New Game Plus Playthrough

After you’ve completed the story campaign, you will have access to New Game +. You now have two choices;

  1. You can make your way back through all completed stages and do the following before continuing on:
    1. Mop up optional objectives
    2. Unlock/Dig up and collect black chests
  2. Or, you can just go ahead and start New Game + immediately and do those things in New Game + instead.

To start New Game Plus, go to any base and then enter the tent. Within, select the mirror left of Yoshiro and then begin New Game Plus.

In this phase, you will be completing every optional objective, collecting every collectible, and upgrading every unit as well as purchasing all of Soh’s skills. A full completionist run.

In New Game +, every mission has two new optional objectives to complete, and you will need to complete all of those too.

There’s also a new boss at the end of the game, so you’ll need to work your way through the story to the end anyway. It’s up to you whether you want to mop everything up as you play, or beat New Game + first and then mop everything up in the post-game.

In NG+ you will keep all of your collectibles, upgrades, and gear, and any objectives you’ve completed will remain complete, so there’s no need to be concerned about having to redo/recollect anything!

New Game Plus Story Trophies

Repeating History

Begin New Game+.

Story-Related

Unmissable

Upon starting your New Game Plus playthrough, you’ll immediately receive the “Repeating History” trophy!

The End

Defeat Cursed Soh.

Story-Related

Unmissable

When you reach the end of New Game Plus, you will have to fight an extra additional boss that you did not have to face in your first playthrough; Cursed Soh.

Cursed Soh appears on Stage Selection after you beat the game’s final boss again. Defeating Cursed Soh is no walk in the park; they’re insanely quick and have a lot of health.

Here’s how I recommend beating them:

  • Equip Talismans that increase Soh’s attack power, as many as you can.
  • Equip powerful Tsuba Guards that can deal damage quickly, such as Byakko’s Claws and Genbu’s Might.
  • Visit the tent at every camp you’ve acquired to gather crystal offerings, bringing your total as close to 2,000 as you can.
  • Before the fight, make as many of your villagers as possible Sorcerers.
  • Throughout the fight, do your best to stay alive, this will avoid Cursed Soh going after your Sorcerers or Yoshiro.
  • Whenever the Sorcerer’s attack is fully charged, switch to it with and press to activate it.
  • Rinse and repeat, using your Tsuba Guards to deal additional damage until the fight is over.

Mountain Goddess Folklore

Obtain all Emaki Scrolls and view them from the tent.

Story-Related

All Emaki Scrolls are earned via story events. The first 10 will be earned in yoru first playthrough, but you’ll need to reach the end of your New Game Plus playthrough to acquire the last two Emaki Scrolls.

After you’ve earned The End and the credits have rolled, go to any of your camps and enter the tent. There, interact with the stack of green scrolls behind Yoshiro and the “Mountain Goddess Folklore” trophy will unlock.

Base Rebuilding Trophies

Sweet Shop

Obtain all sweets.

Collectible

When rebuilding bases, one of the rewards you can get from structures within those bases are sweets. The sweets don’t really do anything, but you can choose to serve them to Yoshiro at the tent between missions. They also offer an interesting insight into historical Japanese confectionary.

By fully rebuilding every base in Kunitsu-Gami, you will naturally unlock the “Sweet Shop” trophy along the way once you have unlocked all 12 Sweets.

When You Wish Upon an Ema

Obtain all Ema Plaques.

Collectible

Ema plaques are earned in two ways; by defeating bosses and by rebuilding certain structures at your bases.

Ultimately, you cannot earn the “When You Wish Upon an Ema” trophy until you have defeated the final boss of New Game Plus (See The End), and even after that, you must make sure you’ve earned every possible plaque from rebuilding base structures.

Beyond that, there’s nothing much you need to do, and you’ll surely be rebuilding your bases anyway based on our earlier advice, so this trophy should come fairly naturally.

Optional Objective Trophies

Employment Agency

Assign every role to the villagers.

To unlock the “Employment Agency” trophy, you simply need to have assigned every possible unit type at least once throughout the game. You’ll gradually unlock unit types by defeating bosses, but in New Game Plus, you’ll already have every possible unit type.

Additionally, some of the optional objectives require you to use every type of role, and there’s even one in Enri Village that requires you to assign every role at least once within the mission, thus you’ll unavoidably unlock this trophy while working on the optional objectives.

Wisdom and Courage

Finish all boss fights up to the Great Shrine Passage within a total of 20 mins in one playthrough.

Time-Sensitive

The “Wisdom and Courage” trophy is not quite as challenging as it sounds. You may assume you need to do a full playthrough in just 20 minutes, or that you need to complete the “Great Shrine Passage” stage in under 20 minutes. Neither of those things are true.

In fact, you just need to beat every boss fight in a cumulative total of under 20 minutes. You can replay all bosses to get your time down, too, nothing is final or missable about this trophy.

You will notice that every boss has an optional objective of beating it under a specific time limit. If you in fact achieve this optional objective for all bosses, you will actually unlock the “Wisdom and Courage” trophy. As such, you will unlock it naturally while working on Mountain Watch.

Mountain Watch

Complete all objectives in every stage, including those in New Game+.

Challenging

Grind

Throughout the game, you will have noticed that every stage has a set of 2-3 optional objectives for you to complete. These become visible after you’ve completed a stage for the first time and you can replay stages to complete them.

You don’t need to try and complete every objective in a single attempt, either, and can replay stages as many times as you need until all objectives have been completed one-at-a-time if necessary.

In New Game Plus, you’ll notice that these objectives are visible from the first time you play a stage, and there are even more objectives to complete.

The list of 2-3 objectives per stage will be expanded to 5 objectives for every stage, and you will need to complete them all to unlock the “Mountain Watch” trophy.

Upgrade Trophies

A Gathering of Masters

Fully upgrade all roles.

The Musubi you earn from opening black chests, completing optional objectives, and rebuilding base structures can be used to purchase upgrades for your villagers.

To do so, visit the tent at any base camp and then select the “Musubi Upgrades” option. From there, select any Villager Role’s mask to bring up their upgrade screen.

In order to unlock the “A Gathering of Masters” trophy, you must purchase all 6 skills for all 12 Villager Roles, which will require a hefty sum of Musubi.

The True Soh

Fully upgrade Soh's abilities.

The Musubi you earn from opening black chests, completing optional objectives, and rebuilding base structures can be used to purchase upgrades for Soh.

To do so, visit the tent at any base camp and then select the “Musubi Upgrades” option. From there, select Soh’s mask at the center to bring up their upgrade screen.

In order to unlock “The True Soh” trophy, you must purchase all 6 skills for Soh, which will require a significant amount of Musubi.

If you would like to avoid having to collect every Musubi in the game (though you’ll still have to complete all Optional Objectives for Mountain Watch), you can actually undo upgrades you’ve made to Villager Roles to reacquire the Musubi you spent on that upgrade. That Musubi can then be used to purchase all of Soh’s skills.

This may speed things up and allow you to avoid opening every Black Chest, but you should probably unlock the A Gathering of Masters trophy first and then, after deciding which units you’ll barely use, reassign those resources to Soh.

A Blessing and a Curse

Complete a stage with 5 Mazo Talismans equipped.

Some of the upgrades available for Soh (see The True Soh) will increase the number of Mazo Talismans you can have equipped at once. You’ll need to buy this upgrade three times to increase your Mazo Talisman slots from 2 to 5. These upgrades cost 10, 20, and 30 Musubi respectively.

After purchasing those upgrades, equip Mazo Talismans in all 5 slots and then play any stage. Upon completing the stage, the “A Blessing and a Curse” trophy will unlock!

Multitasker

Complete a stage with 3 Tsuba Guards equipped.

Some of the upgrades available for Soh (see The True Soh) will increase the number of Tsuba Guards you can have equipped at once. You’ll need to buy this upgrade two times to increase your Tsuba Guard slots from 1 to 3. These upgrades cost 10 and 50 Musubi respectively.

After purchasing those upgrades, equip Tsuba Guards in all 3 slots and then play any stage. Upon completing the stage, the “Multitasker” trophy will unlock!

Phase Three | Final Cleanup

After you have completed New Game Plus, rebuilt every Base, and completed every optional objective, there’s a solid chance that you will have also unlocked every other trophy in the game. This is because most of the remaining miscellaneous trophies will have been progressing naturally as you play. That said, if the Platinum Trophy doesn’t pop, browse the list of trophies below, and ensure you’ve crossed them all off your list so you can cross that finish line.

Misc Gameplay Trophies

Rags to Riches

Defeat Kagokaburi.

Kagokaburi is a walking chest enemy which first spawns during the Adashino Village stage.

It will spend the night running away from you and trying to prevent you from killing it, so it can be a bit of a pain and requires you to abandon your post, meaning you’ll need to make sure that Yoshiro is appropriately guarded by Villagers.

Successfully catching and killing a Kagokaburi will unlock the “Rags to Riches” trophy.

The Little Giant

Defeat all types of Seethe.

To unlock “The Little Giant” trophy, you simply need to have defeated every type of Seethe, including bosses. This will, of course, happen naturally on your way through the story campaign. You will need to have reached the end of your New Game Plus campaign to add Cursed Soh to the list and will also need to make sure you’ve defeated a Kagokaburi (See Rags to Riches), but otherwise the trophy will unlock naturally.

Family Dis-Function

Defeat 100 Seethe by using other Seethe attacks against them.

Cumulative

A lot of the larger Seethe in the game will do AoE or explosive attacks, which actually damage the Seethe around them, not just you and your units. To unlock the “Family Dis-Function” trophy, you need to defeat a cumulative total of 100 Seethe by getting them hit by other Seethe attacks.

The easiest way to farm this trophy, if it doesn’t occur naturally (which is likely), is to replay the Okumiyama Passage level, especially on New Game Plus. There, lots of exploding Seethe will spawn, which you can easily use to damage the other Seethe around them.

Bit by Bit

Consume a total of 100,000 crystals.

Grind

Cumulative

To unlock “Bit By Bit” you need to spend a cumulative total of 100,000 Crystals. You spend crystals by carving the spirit path or assigning and changing villager roles, and so should naturally be working on this trophy throughout both playthroughs. There’s a very high chance that you’ll unlock this trophy either on your way through New Game Plus, or while mopping up Optional Objectives in New Game Plus.

If not, just replay any stages and assign villagers the most expensive roles until the trophy unlocks.

Return to Nature

Purge 200 wild animals of the defilement.

Cumulative

Every stage in Kunitsu-Gami contains defiled creatures, such as Deer, Boars, Snakes and more. When you hit these animals with your sword or bow enough times, they will become purified, dropping Rations for you to use to keep yourself and your units healed.

These animals only appear during the daytime portions of each stage and will run away if you don’t defeat them quickly.

To unlock the “Return to Nature” trophy, you just need to purify a cumulative total of 200 defiled creatures, which should happen naturally during your New Game Plus playthrough if you’ve taken our advice up to this point about purifying them as much as possible.

Compassion for Living Things

Interact with animals in the bases 20 times.

Cumulative

In every base, you will find various animals; cows, dogs, deer, boars, snakes, and more. Each of these animals can be interacted with if you approach them and press .

To unlock the “Compassion for Living Things” trophy, you simply need to interact with these animals a cumulative total of 20 times. You can even just interact with the same animal 20 times if you wish.
