Trophy Guide

Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide and Road Map for PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5

Welcome to our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide. Hot Wheels Unleashed is an exciting arcade racing title from the team over at Milestone. Featuring a wide selection of Hot Wheels vehicles–including licensed vehicles like the Batmobile and the DeLorean–you’ll get to cruise through each race in style as you bomb across iconic bright orange Hot Wheels track pieces set up in high-fidelity scaled environments.

Actual gameplay aside, the game also features a complex track editor and a livery customiser, so you can make your childhood dreams come true by blasting through a near limitless course of your own creation in a Hot Wheels car you got to customise yourself; and not just with some of your Mom’s old Nail Polish!

Phase One – Introduction and Tutorial

At the very start of the game, there are a few trophies you will unavoidably earn just by opening your first three blind boxes and completing the tutorial. This initial phase of our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide is just a way of boxing those off before we jump into the main game.

Phase Two – 100% the Hot Wheels City Rumble Campaign

After completing the tutorial, it’s time to jump straight into the main Hot Wheels Unleashed Campaign. This phase of our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide will focus exclusively on the “Hot Wheels City Rumble” campaign.

Inside, you will complete 5 Boss Races, 32 Time Attack events, 52 Quick Races, and 9 Secret events. You will need to achieve both “Completion Requirements” for every event to unlock the King of the city trophy. You can either try to do this as you go, or complete every event first and then make a completion pass through the campaign to mop up any you missed.

By fully completing 100% of the objectives in this campaign, you will unlock the Secret Rarity vehicles, which will earn you the I Want ’em All trophy.

You can play this phase on any difficulty you like, but you may find that Easy Difficulty is not much of a challenge and quickly becomes boring. Also, completing one of the Quick Race events on Hard difficulty will unlock the Now Try Online trophy.

Keeper of Secrets

Meet the requirements of all the Secret Race Pads.

There are 9 Secret Race Pads to find in total within the City Rumble campaign map. To reveal them, you must complete specific requirements, which are hinted at via the description when you select one.

Many of the Secret Race Pads will require you to have a specific vehicle, but rest assured that every vehicle you will need can be unlocked somewhere on the map, and you do not need to roll any of the required vehicles from Blind Boxes.

Below you will find a short guide to unlocking them all. Their order in the list is chronological, and you will actually need to complete some of them to proceed further into the story:

Secret EventUnlock Requirements
Secret Pad #1Collect the Motosaurus vehicle from one of the Prize Pads with a star icon on it. Then, use the Motosaurus vehicle to complete the “Amazing Drivers” Race event, this will cause the first Secret Pad to be accessible.
Secret Pad #2Complete the Boss Race Event “Jurassic Predator” and the Secret Pad south of it will become accessible.
Secret Pad #3Complete the Time Trial Event titled “Call me flash” and this Secret Pad and Secret Pad #4 will be revealed.
Secret Pad #4Revealed once both Secret Pad #2 and Secret Pad #3 have been revealed.
Secret Pad #5Complete the Boss Race Event “Ghost Seekers” and the fifth Secret Pad will become accessible.
Secret Pad #6Unlock the Bone Shaker vehicle from the Ghost Seekers Boss Race event, play the level titled “Reckless Driving” and the sixth Secret Pad will become accessible.
Secret Pad #7First, unlock the Buns of Steel vehicle from a Prize Pad with a star icon on it. Then, make sure you’ve completed Secret Pad #5. Finally, use Buns of Steel to complete the Race Event titled “The Best” and secret Pad #7 will become accessible.
Secret Pad #8Complete the mission titled “Top Secret” and the 8th Secret Pad will become accessible.
Secret Pad #9First, unlock the “Hot Wheels High” Vehicle from the Reward Pad in the bottom-right corner of the map and then use it to play the first event; “The Journey Begins”. This will unlock the 9th and final Secret Pad.

After revealing all 9 Secret Pads, the Keeper of Secrets trophy will unlock, you do not need to actually complete any of these events to unlock the trophy, but you will need to do so for King of the City.

Complete the Unleashed Goal of all the Race Pads.

Grind

There are 52 Quick Race, 32 Time Attack, 5 Boss, and 9 Secret Race pads, for a grand total of 98 Race Pads within the City Rumble campaign map.

Each one has one or two “Completion Requirements” in the information card displayed when a Race Pad is highlighted. The first of these Completion Requirements is simply the goal you must reach to actually complete the event and earn your rewards. The second of these (where available) is a more difficult objective to reach.

In order to unlock the King of the City trophy, you will need to complete all “Completion Requirements” for every event on the City Rumble Campaign Map.

For Quick Race Events, this means not only finishing on the podium but also finishing in 1st place. If you are having difficulty achieving any of the Quick Race Unleashed Goals, just set the AI difficulty lower.

For Time Attack Events, this will mean completing the track in a more difficult-to-achieve time. If you are struggling to achieve the more difficult Time Attack Unleashed Goal times, you should leave them until you have a vehicle with better stats.

Once you have a really good vehicle you’re confident with, consider upgrading it a few times, and then you should be able to dominate the Time Attack events with a few attempts.

One very good vehicle for Time Trials is the “Bad to the Blade” vehicle you earn from one of the Reward Pads in the City Rumble Campaign.

The best Time Attack cars I found from Blind Boxes, however, were “24 Ours” and “Koenigsegg Jesko”, both of which have the same stats. There was also the “RD-02”, which had the same stats as “Bad to the Blade” but seemed inexplicably better, though more suited to a brute-force approach than a calculated one.

Boss Race Pads only have one goal, which is to win. There’s no bonus Unleashed Goal to worry about there.

Secret Pads, once revealed, will either be a Time Attack or Quick Race event.

Phase Three – Track Builder

Now that your time in Campaign Mode has come to a close, you’re done with the most technically difficult part of your trophy journey, and can simply enjoy yourself from here on out. Let’s start by focusing on the Track Builder in this phase of our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide.

You can access the Track Builder by using on the main menu to move over to the Track Builder mode. From there, the first time you open the Track Builder, you’ll be given a tutorial by the game. This tutorial will teach you about the basic track pieces and help you put together your first short track.

Essentially, you will just want to build any track which has a starting line, a finish line, and a few track pieces/other elements in-between and then you will need to “Validate” it by racing on it for yourself.

In this phase, you will need to validate a total of 5 tracks, which can be as simple or complex as you like.

Track Builder Trophies

Validate a Track in Track Builder mode.

Open the Track Builder for the first time and complete the tutorial to learn how to use the tools at your disposal. When done, the game will ask you to validate the track by racing on it.

Successfully validate the track you built in the tutorial and the “Take the Stage” trophy will unlock.

Trophy Image
Trophy Image
Expert builder

Validate a total of 5 Tracks in Track Builder mode.

After you have completed the Track Builder Tutorial and earned the Take the Stage trophy, you will then have full access to everything the Track Builder has to offer, including any special parts you have unlocked throughout the campaign.

To unlock the Expert Builder trophy, you will need to create and validate 4 more tracks. You don’t need to share or even save the tracks, just validating them is enough. To validate a track, pause the game and hold on the “Validation” option.

These tracks can be as simple as you like, if you just want to create 4 tracks with nothing more than a starting line, a finish line, and one piece of track between then you’re welcome to do so.

I do recommend making at least one full track though, as it’s quite a fun tool to play with and the possibilities are plentiful!

Sometimes the tutorial track doesn’t count towards this trophy. Just validate an extra track and it should unlock regardless!

Phase Four – Online Multiplayer

Next up, let’s get the Multiplayer Trophies out of the way. You’ll be pleased to know that you don’t need to do this portion of our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide with random strangers online, provided you have at least one friend to play online with.

From the main menu, select “Multiplayer” and then either select “Quick Match” to be matchmade with other players, or select “Create Private Lobby” to play with a friend or two who can help you get the trophies below with ease.

Online Multiplayer Trophies

Trophy Image
Trophy Image

Online Multiplayer

For the One Against All trophy, you simply need to complete any race in Multiplayer mode. You don’t need to get a podium finish or finish in 1st place, just participate in a Multiplayer Quick Race from start to finish and this trophy will unlock.

Trophy Image
Trophy Image
You have what it takes

Reach the podium in a total of 3 Quick Races in Multiplayer mode.

Online Multiplayer

For the You Have What it Takes trophy, you will need to race against other players online via Multiplayer Mode and actually finish in the top 3 across three different races.

This can be tricky when playing via “Quick Match” as you will be pit against up to 12 strangers who may well be better than you.

The easiest way to earn this trophy is to start a “Private Lobby” from the Multiplayer menu and then invite at least one friend. If there are only 2 or 3 of you in the lobby, then everyone automatically gets a podium finish, regardless of what position they’re in when they cross the finish line.

In that case, all you’ll have to do is complete three races and the trophy will unlock.

Trophy Image
Trophy Image
Unstoppable

Win a total of 5 Quick Races in Multiplayer mode.

Online Multiplayer

Cumulative

Unstoppable is the hardest of the three Multiplayer Trophies because it does require you to actually in 1st place across five separate races within Multiplayer Mode.

As with You Have What it Takes, you may find this to be quite a struggle if playing online via the “Quick Match” option because this means you will need to be better than up to 12 players, not just once, but five times!

As such, the easiest way to do this is to start a private lobby with a friend or other player you trust, and have them let you win (unless you’re actually their better).

Phase Five – Farming & Cleanup

Now we finally arrive at the fifth and final phase of our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide. Within this phase, you will need to mop up a few miscellaneous trophies, and finish farming resources for some of the more grind-heavy trophies such as Unbridled Luxury and What Do I Do With So Many?.

This phase is structured in the order that I recommend earning the remaining trophies, starting with the Money & Blind Box Trophies, then the Gears & Upgrade Trophies, followed by the 100 Quick Race Trophy and, lastly, a handful of Miscellaneous Trophies.

Money & Blind Box Trophies

The trophies in this portion of our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide will require you to have earned a whopping cumulative total of 100,000 coins throughout your entire time playing the game for Unbridled Luxury. Using a good chunk of that money, you will purchase and open at least 100 Blind Boxes, unlocking the Box Collector trophy.

Trophy Image

Box collector

Open a total of 100 Blind Boxes.

Cumulative

The Box Collector trophy will unlock once you have opened your 100th Blind Box.

You will earn a good collection of Blind Boxes by playing through the Hot Wheels City Rumble campaign, the rest must be bought from the “Shop” option in the main menu. The first time you buy a Blind Box, you will unlock the Spendthrift trophy.

A Blind Box costs 500 gold coins, which you will earn by completing any and all races. You’ll need to farm Gold Coins anyway for the Unbridled Luxury trophy.

I recommend that you do the following steps regularly:

  • Buy as many Blind Boxes as you can afford.
  • Open them all.
  • Sell any duplicates or vehicles you just don’t want (there’s no reason to hang onto any).
  • Use the money you get from selling to buy more blind boxes.
  • Repeat until you run out of money, then go farm coins from races.

If you use that process above, you will open 100 Blind Boxes faster than you’d think. You’ll earn this trophy long before unlocking Unbridled Luxury.

Trophy Image
Trophy Image
Spendthrift

Make a purchase in the Shop.

To unlock the Spendthrift trophy, you simply need to use your Gold Coins in the Shop to purchase any item. You can buy a Blind Box for just 500 coins, or you can spend a bit more on specific cars in the “Limited Offers” section of the shop, which rotates every few hours.

You’ll earn this unavoidably during this phase of our Hot Wheels Unleashed Trophy Guide, if you’ve somehow avoided earning it thus far.

See Unbridled Luxury for more info.

Trophy Image
Trophy Image
Unbridled luxury

Get a total of 100,000 Coins.

Grind

Cumulative

Throughout your time playing Hot Wheels Unleashed, you will need to earn a grand total of 100,000 coins. Don’t worry, you can spend them as you wish and do not need to have 100,000 coins at one time.

You can sell your vehicles for a price dependent on the rarity of the vehicle;

  • Common vehicles sell for 300 coins
  • Rare vehicles sell for 500 coins
  • Legendary vehicles sell for 1,000 coins
  • Super Treasure Hunt vehicles sell for 2,000 coins but are extremely rare

This is the easiest way to earn so much money, and by using the method outlined above for the Box Collector trophy, you can continuously buy and sell cars to earn money over time.

Other than that, you will earn a small number of coins for each race you complete, depending on your position at the end of the race, and you will earn some coins as rewards throughout your City Rumble Campaign playthrough.

Another great way to farm coins is to go into Multiplayer and create a Private Lobby with a friend and then repeatedly complete races on the shortest tracks you can find.

If you press in the level selector, you’ll open the Community maps menu, where you can see the latest custom tracks built by other players. There’s a high chance you’ll find many tracks in there which are extremely short, taking just a second or two to complete.

When you and your friend reach the finish line, the one of you in 1st place will earn 70 coins, and the one in 2nd place will receive just 5 coins less at 65 coins!

Though this is probably the quickest way to farm coins, it would still take around 1500 of these races to earn 100,000 coins, so couple this method with selling Blind Box vehicles.

Starting on November 11th 2021, Milestone will be releasing their first “RACING SEASON”. These Seasons will introduce temporary new content to play which will offer more opportunities to earn coins and gears.

UPDATE (DECEMBER 6TH) – Money and Gears Exploit

A new exploit has been discovered! As it turns out, it’s possible to farm gears and gold coins from the Racing Season using a save exploit. Perform the following actions in this order:

  • Upload your Hot Wheels Unleashed save datat to the PS Plus Cloud Storage.
  • Complete one daily challenge (the 300xp challenge is recommended to maximize profit).
  • Close the game & download your cloud save.
  • Repeat.

The xp you earn from completing the daily challenge will be remembered by the server, but your daily challenge progress (which is stored locally) will be reset when you load an old save backup. This allows you to progress through the season by farming XP from one daily challenge, without needing to wait for the daily challenges to refresh.

Every two levels in the racing season, you will unlock gold coins and gears. Any gold coins and gears you earn from this exploit will also be remembered by the server when you redownload your save.

This exploit has been tested and confirmed as working at the time of writing, but this could easily change with future updates to the game.

Gears & Upgrade Trophies

Once you have earned all of the Money & Blind Box Trophies, you should begin dismantling cars instead of selling them. This way, you will get Gears from your unwanted cars instead of Coins. You will need to earn a cumulative total of 25,000 gears across your entire time playing Hot Wheels Unleashed to unlock What Do I Do With So Many?.

You should then use the Gears you earn to upgrade your vehicles for the upgrade trophies below.

What do I do with so many?

Get a total of 25,000 Gears.

Grind

Cumulative

Throughout your time playing Hot Wheels Unleashed, you will need to earn a grand total of 25,000 Gears to unlock the What Do I Do With So Many? Trophy. Don’t worry, you can use them as you wish and do not need to have 25,000 Gears at one time.

You can dismantle your vehicles for a number of Gears dependent on the rarity of the vehicle;

  • Common vehicles dismantle for 50 gears
  • Rare vehicles dismantle for 100 gears
  • Legendary vehicles dismantle for 200 gears
  • Super Treasure Hunt vehicles dismantle for 500 gears but are extremely rare

This is the easiest way to earn so many gears. Once you have unlocked the Box Collector and Unbridled Luxury trophies, you will be able to stop selling your cars for coins and begin dismantling them instead. Continue using coins to purchase new Blind Boxes when you have them, but be sure to dismantle the cars to get Gears.

Other than that, you will earn some Gears as rewards throughout your City Rumble Campaign playthrough.

This is no small feat at all and will be the single trophy that takes you the longest. Look at it this way; you’re going to need Coins to buy Blind Boxes to collect cars to dismantle for Gears. If we take the worst-case scenario and assume that every single pull from all Blind Boxes is common, you would need 250,000 Coins to purchase enough common vehicles (500) to reach 25,000 gears.

If we assume that the mix of Legendary, Rare, and Common cars you pull averages out to the same value as if every pull was Rare, you would still need 125,000 Coins to afford enough vehicles (250 rare) to reach the required 25,000 gears.

Starting on November 11th 2021, Milestone will be releasing their first “RACING SEASON”. These Seasons will introduce temporary new content to play which will offer more opportunities to earn coins and gears.

UPDATE (December 6th 2021) – Money and Gears Exploit

A new exploit has been found which works at the time of writing. See here for more details.

Complete 100 Quick Race Events

Trophy Image
Trophy Image
Terror of the road

Reach the podium in a total of 100 Quick Races (not unlockable in Split Screen mode).

Grind

To unlock the Terror of the Road trophy, you’re going to need to have reached the podium (finish in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd position) across 100 Quick Race events.

During Phase Two of this Hot Wheels Unleashed trophy guide, in order to unlock King of the City, you will have had to finish in 1st place for at least 52 races. There’s also a pretty high chance you completed some extra races with podium finishes while trying to achieve that or while unlocking Secret Pads on the campaign map.

In short, you will definitely be at least halfway to earning this trophy by this point in your trophy journey, and probably completed more than enough extra races while going for Unbridled Luxury.

Miscellaneous Trophies

Trophy Image
Trophy Image
Friends no more

Complete a race in Split Screen mode.

Local Co-op

You can complete this trophy solo or with a friend, but you will need two controllers.

Start by making sure both controllers are connected and signed in to accounts on your console. Next, from the main menu, press to switch to the “Quick Modes” tab.

At the bottom of this menu, you will see the “Split Screen” option. Select it and you’ll be prompted to press on the second controller. Afterwards, apply the desired settings for both players and then press on both controllers to begin.

Select cars and then a track to race on and then all you need to do is complete the race. You don’t need to win and you can really just leave Player 2 sat at the starting line while you complete three laps, but you will also need to complete those laps with Player 2 if you are doing this trophy solo.

Finish the race as player 1, then put the controller down and play as Player 2 until you reach the end. The race will finish and you can hold to exit Split Screen mode, unlocking the trophy.

Now try online

Win a Quick Race with AI Difficulty set to Hard (not unlockable in Split Screen mode).

There are two ways you can attempt to earn the Now Try Online trophy.

First, you can attempt this in the City Rumble Campaign if you feel as though there’s a particular race you excel at. To do so, open the campaign map and then press to open the options. There, you can change the AI Difficulty to “Hard”. Then, load up your preferred Quick Race event, and finish in first position to unlock the trophy.

Alternatively, from the main menu, select “Options”, change the AI difficulty to “Hard” and then return to the main menu. Next, hit to switch to “Quick Modes”, select “Quick Race” and choose the car you wish to use.

On the next screen, choose any map (I recommend choosing one labeled “Short”) and then finish the race in first position. The Now Try Online trophy will unlock when you press to close the results screen.

Faster than light

Use the Boost for a total of 60 minutes.

The main way to charge your boost in Hot Wheels Unleashed is to drift around corners. When your boost meter is not empty, you can hold to use it for a powerful speed boost.

To unlock Full Speed, Like Lightning, and Faster Than Light, you must use the boost for a cumulative total of 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes respectively.

You will be using this feature a lot as the main way to get ahead in races, so you should unlock these trophies naturally throughout the City Rumble campaign and the 100 Quick Races you need to complete.

Master of drift

Drift for a total of 500,000 centimeters (196,850 inches).

Cumulative

Provided you drift as much as possible to always keep your boost reserves charged, you will likely earn Master of Drift naturally during the City Rumble campaign like I did.

To drift, you just tap while cornering and the car will begin to slide sidewards. You’ll know when you’re drifting as your boost gauge will charge faster and you’ll see smoke coming from your tires.

I earned this trophy after about 5 hours of gameplay so you should expect to see it after a similar amount of time.
