Trophy Guide

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Trophy Guide and Road Map for PS4 & PS5

Welcome to our Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged Trophy Guide! Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is, as you probably surmised, the sequel to Hot Wheels Unleashed. The majority of the game’s mechanics, features, vehicles, and graphics are copied directly from the prequel, but everything has been improved upon in a big way.

The biggest difference between this game and its predecessor in my eyes, however, is the much easier trophy journey. Hot Wheels Unleashed had an unreasonably long coin and gear grind associated with the trophy journey. In order to unlock the platinum, you’d have to play the game for days on end, farming coins and gears from online matches (and later Seasons, once they were added).

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is a dramatically more pleasant experience. There’s little-to-no RNG involved, there are no excruciating grinds, and the whole thing can be wrapped up in around 15 enjoyable hours.

Phase One | Complete Career Mode

As I’m sure was obvious, we’ll begin our Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Trophy Journey the way we often do; complete the story campaign. The campaign in this game features a large map on which you can select events to take part in. Each event you complete unlocks more paths to follow. The yellow path is the main path, while there are some blue and purple side paths to explore for more events and rewards.

You only need to complete the events along the main path. There’ll be a tiny bit of cleanup later but you do not need to complete every event, and you do not need to complete every “Unleashed Goal.” Just do as much or as little as you want, but the extra rewards will be handy later if you choose to do more than the bare minimum.

The difficulty-specific trophy for this game has nothing to do with the campaign, so feel free to set the AI difficulty on Easy and play with as many Riding Aids active as you like.

Unmissable Career Mode Trophies

Rookie

Complete the tutorial.

Unmissable

Before you can even select a mode, you’ll be asked to pick a car and then forced to complete a tutorial with that car. When you reach the end of the tutorial, you’ll unavoidably receive the Rookie trophy.

Acrobat

Perform 20 jumps with any vehicle.

Unmissable

Cumulative

One of the new features in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 over its prequel is the ability to jump by pressing . This can (and in some cases—must) be used to avoid obstacles, cross gaps, access shortcuts, hop up ledges, and get back on track when you fall off. Because this new ability is such an integral part of the game now, you will naturally unlock the “Acrobat” trophy by playing the game.

If you want to for whatever reason, though, you can just mash in an event until the trophy unlocks.

Globetrotter

Complete a race in every environment (except the Track Room).

Unmissable

You will unavoidably complete races on tracks within all five track themes as you make your way through the campaign. As such, you’ll naturally unlock the “Globetrotter” trophy with no additional effort.

Versatile riding

Complete a race in every offline mode.

Unmissable

You will unavoidably complete events of all five offline mode types as you make your way through the campaign. As such, you’ll naturally unlock the “Versatile riding” trophy with no additional effort.

Masterful!

Reach the podium 25 times in any mode (not unlockable in Split Screen mode).

Unmissable

As you make your way through the Career Mode, you’ll find more and more events within which you need to finish in at least 3rd place to progress. Due to this, the “Masterful!” trophy for doing exactly that at least 25 times will come to you completely naturally.

Drift champ

Complete 10 races in Drift Challenge mode.

To unlock the “Drift champ” trophy, you will need to complete a cumulative total of 10 “Drift Challenge” events. Many of the Career Mode events are Drift Challenges, these are found at yellow event tiles.

You will naturally complete more than 10 Drift Challenge events while working through the campaign.

It's me you have to beat

Complete 10 races in Quick Race mode.

Tools of the trade

Get all the Track Builder Modules.

Unmissable

Track pieces will be awarded to you for completing certain Career Mode events. Fortunately, you don’t even need to complete any of the optional side-races at all. Simply completing the main events along the orange route in the Career Mode map will result in you eventually accumulating a full collection of every Track Builder module!

A little nest egg

Earn 100,000 Coins in total.

100,000 coins is nothing compared to the vast wealth you’ll accumulate purely from completing the story campaign. You needn’t concern yourself with this trophy at all, as it will just unlock naturally.

You should note, however, that the trophy is cumulative. This means you can safely spend the money without affecting the trophy and do not need to hold 100,000 coins at one time.

You're good at this!

Reach level 20.

The exp you need to acquire to reach Level 20 is nothing compared to the exp you will naturally accumulate while playing through the main campaign. You can expect to unlock the “You’re good at this!” trophy naturally, especially if you are completing Unleashed Goals and side races (even though they’re not required).

Phase Two | Career Mode Cleanup

After beating the “Nitro Bot” final boss in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2’s Career Mode, there are just a few additional trophies to mop up, and then you’re done with Career Mode.

You’ll likely still need more resources for other trophies in the remainder of the trophy journey, for which you’re free to re-enter Career Mode and complete any remaining events.

In this phase, you’ll need to complete a Career Challenge, 100% a small region of the map, and complete one of the newly-accessible “Extreme” events.

Trophies in this phase:

Extra Career Mode Trophies

Well begun…

Complete the Unleashed Goal of an Event in Career mode.

Every event in Career Mode except bosses has two goals; the clear goal, indicated by a star icon, is the main objective required to progress in Career Mode. The other goal, the “Unleashed Goal,” indicated by a trophy icon, is a tougher objective that, when completed, results in extra rewards.

To unlock the “Well begun…” trophy, you only need to complete an Unleashed objective once for any event you like.

Challenge accepted!

Accept the challenge of a Challenge Event in Career mode.

Dotted around the Career Mode map, you will find purple hex tiles which offer challenges for you to complete. The first such tile that is available asks you to complete the Unleashed Goal on at least 2 events after accepting the challenge.

To unlock the “Challenge accepted” trophy, all you need to do is accept a challenge from one of these purple tiles, you don’t even need to complete the challenge itself.

I'm in charge here!

Complete all goals of an area in Career mode.

To unlock the “I’m in charge here!” trophy, you will need to complete both the main goal and the Unleashed goal for every event in one area of the map. The map is divided into 5 areas, one for each boss.

The easiest area to acquire this trophy in is of course the first one. Complete the unleashed goal for every event between the start and the Octopus Boss to claim the trophy. It’s so easy to do there that you may even earn this trophy naturally.

Extreme conditions

Complete the goal of an Extreme Event in Career mode.

“Extreme Events” are special events that only become available on the Career Mode map after you’ve beat the Career Mode campaign once. After defeating the Nitro Bot boss, you will be able to find these new missions with glowing orange outlines at the ends of optional side-paths.

You may need to complete a few optional events to reach one, but you will only need to complete one of them to unlock the “Extreme conditions” trophy.

Phase Three | Online Trophies

The next thing I’d recommend putting your time into is the small number of Online trophies available in the game, so that’s what this phase of our Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 trophy guide focuses on.

There’s basically just two things you need to do; complete an online Quick Race, and complete 10 online race events. Easy! You don’t need to win and you can either play privately with friends or matchmaker with strangers. Whatever approach you choose, you’ll be done with this phase in around 30-60 minutes!

Trophies in this phase:

Unmissable Story Trophies

Solo
International license

Unmissable Story Trophies

Solo

Complete a Quick Race in Multiplayer mode.

Online Multiplayer

To unlock Solo, you just need to complete one online Quick Race event. You don’t even need to win, just stay in the event until it concludes and the trophy will unlock! You will likely unlock it naturally while working on International license.

International license

Complete 10 races in any online mode.

Online

Boostable

Online Multiplayer

Cumulative

To unlock the International License trophy, just complete 10 online events. Either play in a public lobby via matchmaking or create a private lobby with your friends. However you choose to do it, you won’t need to win any of these events.

Simply see 10 online events through to the end and the International license trophy will unlock regardless of your position!

Phase Four | Offline Modes & Misc Cleanup

After completing the campaign trophies and online trophies in other phases of our Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Trophy Guide, you will have made a huge amount of progress toward all remaining trophies. There’s a good chance you still have some more offline cleanup to do, though, depending on how much side-content you allowed yourself to enjoy during the Career Mode playthrough.

For farming the resources you’ll need, you can either just quick play online modes on easy to get ~1,500 coins per race, or you can scour Career Mode for events you haven’t completed yet.

Quick Race Trophies

Now try online

Win a Quick Race on Hard AI difficulty.

Difficulty-Specific

“Now try online” is the only difficulty-related trophy and all it requires you to do is set the AI difficulty to “Hard” and then complete one race.

You should already have some pretty decent vehicles are your disposal after everything you’ve completed up to this point, so it shouldn’t prove too difficult to keep pace with Hard Difficulty AI.

To begin, from the Main Menu, press to open the Settings. Within, change AI Difficulty to “Hard,” then close the settings with .

Next, select “Quick Modes,” followed by “Single Player.” In the next menu, select the “Quick Race” option.

Next, select any map you like. A short one would be better than a medium or long one. Pay attention to the recommended vehicle type in the top-left. It’s best to choose a track that’s suited to the vehicle you’re most confident with.

Lastly, win the race! You’ll need to finish in first place to unlock the trophy. It might take you some practice and you might need to change track or vehicle if you’re struggling.

Note that the trophy doesn’t unlock until you close the results screen at the end of the race.

Terror of the road

Reach the podium 100 times (not unlockable in Split Screen mode).

Cumulative

To unlock “Terror of the road,” you need to reach the podium (finish in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in a cumulative total of 100 events. As the description says, you cannot just load up split-screen mode and win against yourself.

What you could do is load up online multiplayer and play in a private lobby with 1-2 friends. If you keep the group small, you’re always guaranteed to finish in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd no matter how well you do.

Or, you can just keep playing Quick Race or Elimination events against Easy AI.

After completing the Career Mode and the Online Trophies, you should be at around 50 Podium Finishes, and so will need to complete around 50 additional races either through Quick Modes, Online Play, or just the Career Mode’s events.

Vehicle Shop Trophies

Can you keep a secret?

Obtain a 'Secret' vehicle.

Collectible

“Secret” cars need to be unlocked via the “Unleashed Missions” in your profile (See Mission complete.)

Note that they are not the same as Super Treasure Hunt Vehicles.

There are quite a few Unleashed Missions that you will naturally complete which have vehicles as rweards. One such example is “Once upon a time” which awards you a vehicle for completing the career mode campaign!

After beating career mode, you can just go into your Profile, open Unleashed Missions, claim your reward, and the trophy will unlock!

…Is half done

Get half of the Collection vehicles (DLC excluded).

Collectible

There are a lot of vehicles available in Hot Wheels Unleashed, 138 in total. Some are unlocked through Career Mode, and some are unlocked through Unleashed Missions, but the vast majority of vehicles can simply be purchased from the in-game shop using in-game currency!

You’ll need to invest the vast wealth of coins you’ve accumulated throughout your playthrough to purchase cars from the store until the “…Is half done” trophy unlocks. This should happen at 69/138 vehicles acquired but you’ll need to acquire a fair few more than that; 95/138. I’m not sure why it’s like this, and I’ve counted the cars in the game as many different ways as I can and it still doesn’t make sense… But 95 is how many I had when it finally unlocked!

Just keep buying the cheapest vehicles from the store. If you need to farm a few more coins, you can keep playing Quick Modes and Career Mode Events, or try your hand at playing online for bigger coin payouts.

If you want to check how many vehicles you’ve already collected, you can see this info in the “Collection” tab of the Unleashed Missions.

Eagle eye

Get all the Super Treasure Hunt vehicles.

Collectible

“Super Treasure Hunt” vehicles are extremely rare vehicles with a red strip on the packaging. They cost 6,000 gold in the store and there’s only 15 of them in the whole game to try and collect.

Collecting them is as simple as buying them all from the store. Simply either chest the store every 45 minutes for new stock, or refresh the stock for 350 coins by pressing until you see one of these Super Treasure Hunt vehicles.

Buy it and then refresh the stock again. Repeat until you have found and purchased all 15 Super Treasure Hunt vehicles!

Be wary that it’s possible to buy a vehicle more than once, so be careful not to waste money on Super Treasure Hunt vehicles you already own.

You can track how many Super Treasure Hunt vehicles you’ve collected so far via the Unleashed Mission called “Shades of Red.”

Shopping time!

Make a purchase at the Shop.

From the main menu, go to “Garage” and then “Shop.” As I’m sure you know by now, you can use your hard-earned coins in the shop to acquire new vehicles.

To unlock the “Shopping time” trophy, all you need to do is make a purchase for the very first time!

Spendthrift

Buy 25 vehicles at the Shop.

At the Shop in the Garage, you need to make a cumulative total of 25 purchases to unlock the “Spendthrift” trophy. You’ll end up needing to buy more than just 25 vehicles for other trophies like …Is half done anyway!

Spin the wheel

Spin the Hot Wheels™ Spin for the first time.

In the Garage, there’s an option under the shop called “Hot Wheels Spin.”

To unlock the “Spin the Wheel” trophy, select this option and use one of your two complementary spins to spin the wheel for the first time.

Regardless of what prize you acquire, the trophy will unlock!

Misc Upgrade Trophies

Extra gear

Equip any vehicle with a skill.

To unlock the “Extra Gear” trophy, first select a vehicle in your collection with to enter its vehicle management page.

From there, highlight any of the rhombus-shaped skill icons to preview what benefits they’ll give you.

Once you’ve found one that you like, press and use your resources to purchase it. Once purchased, press again on it to equip it into one of your Skill Slots. Doing so for the first time will unlock the trophy.

Beyond the limit

Upgrade the type of any vehicle.

To unlock “Beyond the Limit,” you must first go to your Collection, then, with a car highlighted, press to enter its “Vehicle Management” page.

There, you’ll be able to purchase skills, equip skills, and upgrade the vehicle to the next tier.

To unlock the “Beyond the limit” trophy, you must upgrade a Stock vehicle to the Powered tier. To do so, highlight the “Powered” section in the second column and then press to make the purchase.

Perfectionist

Upgrade the type of a vehicle to Ultimate.

The Perfectionist trophy is very similar to Beyond the Limit, except for this one you will need to use your resources to upgrade a vehicle to the “Ultimate” tier for the first time.

Highlight the “Ultimate” section in the third column and then press to make the purchase.

Better too much

Equip any duplicate vehicle with 7 skills.

To unlock “Better too much,” you first need two copies of the same car. It doesn’t matter which one you acquire first, you can use either of them for this, just make sure you purchase a car you already own from the store.

You can see if you already own a car, thanks to the small orange box that appears at the bottom of the screen in the shop.

Once you have two copies of one vehicle, you then need to open Vehicle Management on one of them from your Collection, then do two things:

  1. Upgrade it to “Ultimate” tier, unlocking all 6 skill slots.
  2. Purchase and equip 6 skills, 4 of which should be from the same group (either green or blue).
  3. Equipping four skills of the same colour (not including yellow) activates an extra 7th skill.

Upon doing so, the Better too much trophy is all yours.

There’s one scenario to be wary of, which actually happened to me. I already had the Snoopy car, fully upgraded with 7 skills equipped. So, when I saw the Snoopy car in the shop again I obviously bought it up immediately.

But the trophy didn’t unlock.

Fortunately, you can open up Vehicle Management and just unequip one skill, then equip it again. The trophy will unlock in that moment.

Spoiled for choice

Buy all the skills of a vehicle.

The Spoiled for choice trophy is simple, but costs a lot of resources. Fortunately, after completing the campaign you’ll have a wealth of resources to spare. Using said resources, do the following:

  1. Open your vehicle collection.
  2. Press on a vehicle to open Vehicle Management on it.
  3. If needed, upgrade it to “Ultimate” tier.
  4. Purchase every single skill. All 6 green skills, all 6 blue skills, and all three yellow skills.

After doing so, the “Spoiled for choice” trophy will unlock immediately, regardless of how many you choose to equip.

Track Builder Trophies

Stage animal

Validate a track in Track Builder mode.

The “Stage animal” trophy is likely going to be the last one you have left, unless you really actually wanted to play with the track builder—no judgement here!

To begin, select “Track Builder” from the main menu, select “Track Builder” again, then choose a track theme to build on.

When you open the track builder for the first time, it’ll begin a tutorial teaching you how to create a course, so just begin following along.

After placing the finish line, open the menu and select “Validation.”

You’ll just need to drive from the start to the finish to prove that the track can be completed.

After you do that, the trophy will not unlock. Validating the tutorial track doesn’t count for the trophy. Instead, you must build your own track and validate that.

Now that you know how thanks to the tutorial, though, just place a Start piece, two track pieces, and a Finish line.

You should then see “Validation Available.” After validating your new custom track, the Stage animal trophy is all yours!

Misc Gameplay Trophies

Out of control

Perform 10 lateral dashes with any vehicle.

Cumulative

The “Out of Control” trophy requires you to press or during races to perform a lateral dash a cumulative total of 10 times.

Lateral dashes are quick horizontal movements that can be used to ram other racers into obstacles or off the road. That said, I rarely use it myself as it’s not that useful. Therefore, it’s entirely possible to complete Career Mode without unlocking this trophy.

Just load up any race or quick race event and mash / repeatedly until the trophy unlocks.

Drifting teacher

Drift for 500,000 centimeters (196,850 inches) in total.

Cumulative

To unlock the “Drifting Teacher” trophy, you will need to drift (hold and push while cornering) a cumulative total of 500,000 centimeters.

You will actually end up drifting a lot throughout the career mode. Not just for actual Drift events but also to accumulate boost during other events.
However, after finishing the campaign, I was only at around 50% completion in the PS5’s trophy menu.

There’ll obviously still be a lot more races with you needing to reach the podium 100 times, race 10 times online, and more. But even after all that, you might still need to farm a few more inches.

If so, load up any event with the driftiest vehicle you have and spend some time racking up drift centimeters on the track’s corners. You could actually just load up any drift event you’ve completed in career mode and, as long as you don’t beat your record, the event will never end. You can just throw a show on to watch in the background while you rack up centimeters in a drift course of your choosing!

Like lightning!

Use the Boost for 30 minutes in total.

Cumulative

“Like Lightning!” is incredibly likely to unlock naturally. Probably around a third of the way into your career playthrough, so there’s a good chance you won’t even need to think about this one.

All in all, to unlock it you simply need to boost in race events by holding . You can recharge your boost gauge by driving over special pickups, drifting on corners, slipstreaming opponents, and more.

Shapeshifter

Reach the podium with a Rocket, Off-Road, Balanced, Drifter, Swift, and Heavy Duty vehicle.

To unlock the “Shapeshifter” trophy, you will essentially need to complete at least one race in at least third place with a vehicle from each of the 6 categories; Rocket, Off-Road, Balanced, Drifter, Swift, and Heavy Duty.

It’s wise to change up which vehicle you use regularly, especially since some tracks and events are better suited to specific vehicle types. Just make sure you use a variety in Career Mode and you’ll unlock this naturally.

An alternative method would be to play a private online match with a friend online and complete six races using each of the six vehicle types at least once. As you can only possibly finish in 1st or 2nd when playing with one friend, you will progress this trophy each race regardless of whether you actually win the race.

Magic trick

Reach a new Prestige level.

To unlock the “Magic Trick” trophy, you will need to “Prestige.” In order to do that, you must reach the level cap and then level up again.

The maximum level is 30, so just 10 more levels on top of the You’re good at this! trophy. Once you are at level 30, continue earning exp until you level up again. You’ll instead prestige, starting again at Level 1.

Doing this for the first time unlocks the Magic Trick trophy.

Mission complete

Complete your first Unleashed Mission.

This trophy unlocked for me before I even knew what Unleashed Missions were, and I’m confident the same will likely happen to you.

Unleashed Missions are like mini trophies, hidden away in your profile. From the main menu, press [options] to access your profile, then select the top option; “Unleashed Missions.”

Within, you’ll find 5 tabs filled with literally hundreds of these missions. Completing them will allow you to claim prizes such as profile customization options, resources, and money, but nothing that you’ll need for any other trophies.

As such, you’ll just need to complete any single one of these missions to unlock the “Mission Completed” trophy, which is extremely likely to occur naturally due to the wide range of missions available, including one for completing the story, which awards you a vehicle required for Can you keep a secret?. You don’t even need to claim the reward for the mission you completed.
