Trophy Guide
How to Unlock All Trophies in Lost Words: Beyond the Page for PlayStation 4
Welcome to our Lost Words: Beyond the Page Trophy Guide. Lost Words: Beyond the Page’s chapters are each split into two different gameplay sections. The first is set within the pages of a young girl’s journal, telling the emotional and touching tale of Izzy’s first experiences with mortality.
The second type of gameplay is set in the fictional world of Estoria, as you take up the mantle of the protagonist in Izzy’s fantasy story, which she uses to cope with the events going on in her life. You’ll get to make minor choices throughout, which affect her story in various ways.
All in all, this quick and easy trophy journey is worth it for the story alone. Everything else is a bonus.
Phase One – Story Playthrough
In this first phase of our Lost Words Trophy Guide, the bare minimum you should do is to simply complete the game’s story. This will unlock a handful of unmissable Story Trophies.
You would then need to clean up any Collectible Trophies, Chapter-Specific Trophies, and Misc Trophies in Phase Two of this Trophy Guide.
It is, however, very easy to earn the platinum in just one single playthrough of the game, so if you feel like trying to get those trophies in this first playthrough and save yourself a lot of time, then you’re more than welcome to do so.
Story Trophies
The Stage is Set
Finish Chapter 1
Once you have completed both the Diary and Estoria sections of Chapter 1, the “The Stage is Set” trophy will unlock.
The Journey Begins
Finish Chapter 2
Complete the Diary and Estoria sections of Chapter 2 to unlock the “The Journey Begins” trophy.
The First Descent
Finish Chapter 3
To unlock the “The First Descent” trophy, complete both the Diary and Estoria sections of Chapter 3.
A New Companion
Finish Chapter 4
After you’ve completed both the Diary and Estoria sections of Chapter 4, you will unlock the “A New Companion” trophy.
Into Solitude
Finish Chapter 5
Completing both the Diary and Estoria sections of Chapter 5 will unlock the “Into Solitude” trophy.
Facing the Beast
Finish Chapter 6
Once both the Diary and Estoria sections of the 6th Chapter have been completed, you will receive the “Facing the Beast” trophy.
The Shimmer of Hope
Finish Chapter 7
To add the “The Shimmer of Hope” trophy to your collection, you just need to finish both the Diary and Estoria sections of the 7th Chapter.
Page Master
Unlock your full potential
There are a total of 6 words to find and collect in your magic book. Fortunately, they will all be collected automatically as they’re required for the story, making them unmissable.
At the start of Chapter 8, you will receive the final word, completing your magic book and unlocking the Page Master trophy.
The End?
Finish Chapter 8
Complete both Chapter 8’s Estoria section and its Diary section to receive the “The End?” trophy.
A World Reborn
Start something new
After you complete Chapter 8, there is a short epilogue. When this epilogue begins, the “A World Reborn” trophy unavoidably unlocks.
You do not need to do anything in particular to gain access to the epilogue, simply finishing the game is enough.
Token of Appreciation
Thanking You
For this trophy, all you need to do is finish the game. Once the credits are playing, you can press to skip them and unlock the trophy.
Phase Two – Cleanup (Optional)
In our Lost Words Trophy Guide’s second phase, you can use Chapter Select to cleanup any Collectibles or Chapter-Specific Trophies you’ve missed along the way.
To access Chapter Select, from the Main Menu, choose “Play” and then look for a green book icon next to your “Completed” save. Select this book icon to open Chapter Select.
Within, you can choose to access either the Diary or Estoria sections of each Chapter. You will also see a total count of the fireflies you’ve collected in each Chapter, where relevant.
Using this, collect any trophies you still need and grab yourself the Platinum.
Collectible Trophies
True Guardian
Find all the Fireflies
To unlock the “True Guardian” trophy, you will need to find and collect all 120 Fireflies in the game.
Fireflies are small glowing aquamarine particles floating in the air, which you collect by just running into them.
You won’t see them until Chapter 3, and they only show up in Estoria, not the Diary sections.
They only appear in a few select chapters, too. See the table below for an idea of the distribution:
Chapter | No. of Fireflies |
---|---|
Chapter 1 | 0 |
Chapter 2 | 0 |
Chapter 3 | 20 |
Chapter 4 | 20 |
Chapter 5 | 20 |
Chapter 6 | 20 |
Chapter 7 | 0 |
Chapter 8 | 40 |
Fireflies are honestly so easy to spot that I really don’t foresee anyone needing a collectible guide. Most of them you will even collect naturally just because they’re in the way!
Once you have completed the game at least once, you will get access to Chapter Select. Chapter Select displays the number of Fireflies you’ve found in each chapter, and you can obviously easily replay the chapters to collect any you missed.
Additionally, here’s a few tips to help you along the way:
- In Chapter 3, when the Recently-Silenced Djinn is spawning breakable blocks in your path, don’t break them. Instead, jump over them. He eventually spawns two blocks that are twice as tall as a normal block and take two hits with the word “break” to destroy. Above the second one is the most missable Firefly in the game.
- In Chapter 6, when exploring the underwater area, the path splits a few times, symmetrically. Take note that each firefly you find on the right side of this area has a duplicate on the left, mirrored.
- When playing through Chapter 7, every time that you need to climb a vine, climb all the way to the top as there is likely a Firefly there.
Please note that while you’re grabbing collectibles using Chapter Select, you do not need to complete the associated Chapter for them to count. But you still can’t just quit out. Make sure you keep playing until you see a thin white wheel appear in the bottom left corner of the screen, indicating that the game is autosaving.
Once you’ve seen that, you can safely quit to the Main Menu.
The only exception to this is the final one you collect, as the trophy will pop when you grab it, and then it doesn’t matter whether the game remembers that you grabbed it or not.
Always bet on black
Collect every black asterisk
To unlock “Always bet on black,” you will need to collect every Black Asterisk in the game.
Fortunately, there are only 7, and 5 of them are completely unmissable. Just 2 in the Diary section of Chapter 3 are missable, so I’ve provided instructions for those below.
For the first missable asterisk, proceed through the diary until you’re standing on a sentence that reads, “All you need is a leap of faith.”
Jump toward the purple asterisk to your right, and you’ll begin falling down. As you’re falling, a black Asterisk will appear on the left page.
Stay on the left page while falling to ensure you don’t miss it!
Also in that same falling section, when the words “Gran is going to get to better, Right?” appear on the pages, keep your eye out again for another black asterisk on the left page.
The rest can’t be missed even if you try!
Once you have all six, the trophy will unlock. This should happen during the Diary section of Chapter 6.
Chapter-Specific Trophies
Collect-o-mania
Collect the items in Estoria 1
The Collect-o-mania trophy can only be unlocked during the Estoria section of Chapter 1.
There are four items you can collect in this section. The items that appear depend on your choices in the Diary section, but they are always in the same places.
To find the first of these items, go left instead of right at the start of this section.
The second can be found at the top of the first ledge to the right of where you start. Difficult to miss.
After grabbing the previous collectible, drop down, and you’ll see a stone block behind you.
Move it to the right and then crouch into the cave beyond.
To your left you should see the third collectible.
After grabbing that one, return to the stone you moved and use it to reach the ledge above, where the final collectible can be found.
Once you have all four, the “Collect-o-mania” trophy will unlock!
Hear Ye, Hear Ye
Ring the bell in E1
The Hear Ye, Hear Ye trophy can only be earned during the Estoria section of Chapter 1.
After leaving the village and making your way to the Firefly shrine, there is a series of three large stones with blue arrows on them. These can be raised using the magic book.
Directly in front of you at the top, you will see a large bell hanging down.
Jump at the chain, which you need to use to progress, but instead of jumping off at the next ledge, keep swinging until the bell starts to ring out.
The trophy will unlock as the bell tolls.
A Friend Indeed
Help the villager
The A Friend Indeed trophy can only be earned during the Estoria section of Chapter 2.
After riding an elevator to a raised wooden platform, look among the debris for a Villager trapped below some fallen planks.
It is hard to miss because he will call out to you and is along the main path.
Use the word “raise” from your Magic Book to lift the planks, freeing the Villager below, and unlocking the trophy.
PieCeption
Into the pie-byss
The PieCeption trophy can only be unlocked during the Diary section of Chapter 4.
Proceed through the level until you are standing on the words “Dad had made pie for tea.”
When you stand on the purple word, “pies,” this will spawn a large drawing of a pie.
Jump down onto the next sentence, where the pie is. Jump over to the pie’s right side, and then start pushing it towards the left edge of the sentence.
The pie will fall off the page and then respawn at the top of the left page, above the word “pies.” The trophy then unlocks.
If you accidentally pushed it to the right instead, immediately press and then quit to the main menu. Do not leave the page, or you’ll need to replay the whole Diary Section again for another shot at the trophy.
It’s a Miracle
Do all the washing up
The It’s a Miracle trophy can only be unlocked during the Diary section of Chapter 5.
After a section where you clean your room, there’s a new page with some dishes and a sink. To unlock “It’s a Miracle” you will need to wash all the dishes.
Firstly, grab the “gather” word and move it across each of the dishes to move them into the sink.
Next, grab the word “clean” and then hold it on the dishes to clean them. One by one, they will move into the sink and then onto the drying rack.
Once every last dish has been cleaned, the trophy will unlock!
No remorse
Topple all the frozen Seakin
The “No Remorse” trophy can only be acquired during the Estoria section of Chapter 6.
Near the end of this chapter, there will be some blue fish-people called “Seakin.” They will eventually be frozen as part of the story and then any of these frozen Seakin that you walk by will fall over.
To unlock “No Remorse,” you will have to find and topple all of the Seakin in the Chapter. They’re very easy to find in general, and the vast majority of them will be toppled naturally as you play.
When you come to a tunnel you need to crawl through, though, make sure you jump up onto the platform just before it, as there are a lot of them up there, as well as a Firefly!
The rest should be basically unavoidable.
If you managed to topple them all, the trophy will unlock towards the end of the chapter.
Lightbringer
Light all the torches
The “Lightbringer” trophy can only be unlocked during the Estoria section of Chapter 8.
While moving through a large tower there are several dark areas. In these areas, you will see some torches highlighted in blue.
You can use the word “burn” from your magic book to light them, making it possible to see your surroundings.
The torches are all along your main path and are in plain sight the entire time. It would be particularly difficult to miss one.
Once you light the final torch in the Chapter, the trophy will unlock. Provided, of course, that you haven’t missed any.
Misc Trophies
To Infinity and Beyond
Loop the page for 5 seconds
During any Diary section of a chapter, you can fall off the bottom of a page to reappear at the top, Pacman style!
To unlock the “To Infinity and Beyond” trophy, you will need to fall off the page 5 times in a row. Each time you reappear at the top, you must ensure that you don’t land on any words and instead keep falling until the trophy unlocks.
