Trophy Guide

Trophy Guide and Road Map for Wattam on PlayStation 4

This Wattam Trophy Guide lists the trophies in a chronological order so that you will be working on the right trophies at the right time. The trophy descriptions can be very confusing or misleading and there is a severe lack of decent Trophy Guides for this game online, so hopefully I help to fill that void for anyone who has found themselves struggling.

Glitch Notes:

The game is very glitchy and many of these glitches will affect your Platinum Trophy Journey. Below, I will list the glitches which I experienced as well as solutions for getting around them.

Objectives not completing despite requirements being met.

This is fairly common but is actually quite easy to fix. All you need to do is reload the game. You can save the game right where you are and then simply load that save, zero consequence, no progress lost, and then you should be able to complete your objective without the game getting hung up where it was caught before.

A common place for this to happen is the Lighthouse quest. If you get a character to the top of the tree while wearing a lighthouse hat, the quest should continue. If it doesn’t, save the game, load that save and then try again. It should work.

Large items like the Island/Sushi Rotator from Summer getting lost in space.

When this happened, I could see where it was via the collection menu but whenever I selected it, I was sent to the nearest object instead. The way I got around this was to take a large object like the Yacht and sail it to exactly where the island was meant to be.

This caused the yacht to glitch quite heavily before being launched across the map, but the island was respawned back where it belonged.

Small objects getting lost in space

This happened a few times. When an object goes too far out because it was flung by a large object or an explosion gone wrong, they get stuck out in space and when you try to select them, you’re just sent to the nearest object instead.

I noticed that when you hover over this lost item in the collection menu, they will start swimming back to land on their own, but if you select them they will stop. Stay hovered over their selection in the collection menu and watch them swim back, once they’re back over dry land you should be able to select them again.

Watching the Phone swim back through Space after glitching out.

Hat summon glitched

Later in the game you get the ability to summon your hat once you explode. Somehow, when I did this in the final moments of my last playthrough, the hat got stuck within the island it was on and just stayed there. I could hear it on Spring island making whooshing and jet engine noises but it never actually came back.

I didn’t find a solution for this, but luckily there are 2 other hats – you just can’t summon them.

Snowman can disappear completely

This is particularly bad because there is a trophy for turning all characters gold.

I found that this is most common with the Snowman, and most people have the same issue with him but it could potentially happen with others. If he leaves Winter Island, he will melt down to just a snowball. The problem with this is that he is so round that he will simply roll straight off of any moving island.

My belief is that whenever the AI takes him off Winter island, he melts into a snowball and then rolls into space on the nearest moving island, never able to stay on any surface which might be able to move him back to land he easily becomes very lost.

This glitch is not fixable. If this happens you will be locked out of your “Struck Gold” trophy and you will have to start the game again.

I recommend that once you have the Snowman unlocked, you check on him at regular intervals. Pull up the collection menu and check that he still exists. If he is still there, save the game. If he is not, load your last save where he was still there.

Also, make sure he stays on Winter island. If you see that he has moved onto another island, do your best to slowly and carefully move him back to winter island. The large Toilet island is the best for this, as the rim at the back will stop him from rolling off the edge while you’re transporting him.

Stage 1 – Beat the Main Story

Unmissable Trophies

In this stage of our Wattam Trophy Guide, several trophies will pop naturally through story progression, I’ll get them out of the way now by listing them below. Knowing which ones don’t actively need pursuing should help you to keep those others in mind as you play.

Trophy Image
They Go Up So Fast

Congratulations! This is a trophy commemorating the day you threw some round children after mistaking them for balls. It's a good thing the children enjoyed it.

While working through this stage of our Wattam Trophy Guide, you’re going to want to be doing the following, to help you earn more difficult trophies in the future:

  • Every time you get a new tree, eat everyone and make them into fruit , this will help you unlock all of the different fruits each tree can make.
  • Eat, eat, eat! Use the mouth object to eat all of the characters you just turned into fruit.
  • Poop them out! Make sure that whenever you’re eating someone , you’re actively pooping them out too!
  • Explode with the Mayor A LOT. In total you’ll need to explode 100 times and you need to explode 5, 10, and 15 characters at once. So just keep actively doing this throughout your playthrough. Met a new character? Blow them up. See a few characters huddled up? Blow them up. Don’t know what to do next? Well, blow up a few times while you figure it out.

Stage 2 – Wattam Miscellaneous Trophies

You may well beat these through your initial playthrough, and you may indeed beat them in a completely different order, but the following trophies in this Wattam Trophy Guide simply require you to do something using an object’s abilities or one of the game’s mechanics. They’re not tied to any story progression and they also don’t require a lot of grinding like some of the other trophies.

Earning Wattam’s Miscellaneous Trophies

Trophy Image
Big Poop, Middle Poop, Just a Little Poop

Congratulations! This is a trophy commemorating the discovery of all three types of Poop. However much the Big Poop may look like ice cream, be sure not to taste it because it is very assuredly Poop and will taste as such.

A trophy to be proud of, I’m sure…

For this trophy you will need to have finished the game. Once you complete the story, you’ll get a small notification in the corner letting you know that the Mouth’s eating abilities have been improved.

This means that the mouth can now eat up to 3 characters before needing to poop. Here’s how you get all 3 sizes:

  • Small Poop: This is the normal poop, you should definitely have made one of these before.
  • Medium Poop: Eat 2 characters before pooping.
  • Big Poop: Eat 3 characters before pooping.
Trophy Image
Red Balloon! Blue Balloon! Green Balloon!

Congratulations! This is a trophy commemorating the return of Balloons of every color. And it appears their acrophobia has improved as well!

Here’s one you may indeed earn during your first playthrough, though I’ve seen a lot of people complain that they didn’t find these until very last.

Throughout the game you’ll come across a Bowling Pin. It’s first appearance is story-related but the other 3 appearances need to be triggered.

This bowling pin will ask you to stack characters until you’re as tall as him, and will be smaller every time you see him. Which means that, yes, you can actually just find a single character who is the same height as him and then present that. Hats also count towards your character’s height, so if you’re just a little bit off try using a hat.

Whenever you meet his requirements, a bowling ball will come racing towards you and knock down the pin. This will spawn a balloon the first three times you do this, and then you will unlock the bowling pin and bowling ball as characters on the fourth occurrence.

This trophy is just for getting the balloons, so completing the first three instances.

Typically, the bowling pin will appear on a seasonal island once the next island has been unlocked and explored a little. Therefore, returning to a previously completed season will cause the Bowling Pin to spawn.

If you are struggling, just visit every seasonal island in order once you have finished the game, you should see a short cutscene when he appears, but if you missed it then just ensure you check every corner of the islands as he always lands in a corner.

Trophy Image
My First Conveyor Belt Sushi

This is a trophy commemorating the conception of conveyor belt sushi. Up until now, sushi meant sitting at a counter in front of a stern old man… but with this, even kids can enjoy the experience.

I hope you’re prepared for this trophy because it sucks.

Throughout the game there are 4 Sushi characters you will unlock as part of a detective section of the story.

Once you have all 4, you need to take them to Summer island, and have them all climb to the top of the island in the center. This is easier if you take control of the island and then push to make him shorter. You can also grab onto a balloon and have them take you up to the top. When you’re climbing the base of the tower, you will actually climb all the way to the top, even the horizontal part underneath the island, just keep holding .

The frustrating thing about this trophy is that the sushi will not stay on top of this island. It’s like trying to babysit four 6-year-old kids with ADHD and an obsession with moving cars, ten if you count the irritating Ikura kids which follow one of the sushi around.

The green one with the 6 kids is the worst, her kids are always falling off, which makes her want to get off too. And I’m fairly certain that the trophy will not pop unless the Ikura Mom has her 6 Ikura Kids on top of her.

If you somehow manage to wrangle these nightmarish sushi demons and get them each onto one of the four square plates at the top of the island, you then need to take control of the Island and (very slowly) push to make it turn. The trophy will pop while the island is rotating with all 4 sushi (and those damned kids) in place.

To say I yelled would not be inaccurate

If you spin the island too fast, by pushing too far, the sushi will get flung off the island before the trophy can pop and you’ll have to do it all again. Good luck, I don’t envy you.

Trophy Image
People Power

This is a trophy commemorating the discovery of a secret power invoked by holding hands in a circle. Though individually we are weak, together we can overcome great obstacles!

To start with, have one of your characters turned into Poop, Fruit, or Gold and then gather 5 other characters. Have the 5 additional characters hold hands and form a circle around the one who has been turned into poop/fruit/gold.

If you’re struggling to form the circle around this character, then just switch to that character and jump inside the circle before then switching back to a character who is part of the circle.

Then, use to have the circle rotate around the affected character who will eventually change back into their base form. The trophy will then pop too!

Trophy Image
Smallest of the Small

This is a trophy commemorating the establishment of the smallest person. Another of life's great mysteries, solved. Now for the other 2,913,658.

Trophy Image
Tallest of the Tall

This is a trophy commemorating the establishment of the tallest person. Another of life's great mysteries, solved.

For these two trophies you will want to unlock the “Ruler” character, who appears after you’ve found the Book in the Autumn stage.

The ruler has the ability to “Measure” characters, which you can do by approaching a character and pressing when the prompt appears.

For the Smallest of the Small trophy, approach a tree seed such as the chestnut or pinecone and press to measure them. You can turn a Tree back into a seed by approaching the small brown circle in the center of any island and pressing to “Transform”.

you can only just see the little seed hiding behind his leg.

For the Tallest of the Tall trophy, approach the Yacht character and press to measure them when prompted.

Trophy Image
ZZZ

Congratulations! This is a trophy commemorating Pillow successfully getting three people to sleep at the same time. Pillow is currently practicing hard for next year's Slumber Tournament. We hope you win gold, Pillow. We're all rooting for you.

Shortly after you unlock the Ruler and other Stationery characters, the Pillow character will appear. At night, the Pillow has the ability to put people to sleep just by approaching them.

Putting 3 to sleep at the same time requires quickly getting next to 3 characters who are very close together and proves a little tricky as it really does need to be within the same nano-second.

Luckily, there are 7 characters who will always desperately try to stay together. The Ikura Mom and her kids! Have the pillow approach this family at night and they will very quickly drop off to sleep awarding you the trophy.

Sleep tight, little salmon eggs.

Don’t try to attempt this the first time the Pillow appears (unless the Ikura family is for some reason already on that island) just do it at the end of the game when you have control over the Day/Night cycle and there isn’t an objective which you might break by trying to leave the island.

Trophy Image
Circle of Friends (5)

This trophy commemorates holding hands with 5 friends. 5 friends is so many, you may spark some jealousy.

Trophy Image
Circle of Friends (10)

This trophy commemorates holding hands with 10 friends. 10 friends is an almost incredulous number of friends.

Trophy Image
Circle of Friends (15)

Congratulations! This trophy commemorates holding hands with 15 friends. 15 friends is a little unbelievable. Are you really sure they're all your friends?

These three are pretty self-explanatory. Just hold hands with 15 friends (no need to form a circle) and all 3 should pop on the way!

Obviously you can just gradually earn these as you play through the game, too, rather than trying to do them all at once.

Trophy Image
5 Go Kaboom

This trophy commemorates the delight of going Kaboom with 5 troubled friends. Hopefully any bad feelings have been Kaboomed away as well.

Trophy Image
10 Go Kaboom

This trophy commemorates the delight of going Kaboom with 10 friends, who are in a rough spot. Hopefully this will be the first step in moving forward.

Trophy Image
15 Go Kaboom

Congratulations! This trophy commemorates the delight of going Kaboom with 15 friends, who share troubled thoughts about the state of the world. Not everything is right with the world, so it's okay!

Pretty self-explanatory also. Gather 15 friends and then use the Mayor’s Magic Bomb ability to blow them all sky-high. This should pop all 3 trophies, but of course you can just do them individually and gradually as you play.

Getting 15 characters close enough for a single Kaboom can be tricky so the Ikura family may come in handy again here.

You can also force characters over to a single island by using the Toilet. Whenever you flush a character, they will pop out of the “Pipe” character, covered in gold.

You can actually put the pipe on one island while the toilet flushes characters on another island, this way you can go across an entire island, flushing everyone and sending them to another single island, where you can have the Mayor lying in wait to blow them all up once the crowd grows big enough.

Be wary of frame drops if you’re doing that though.

Alternatively, when you create your chain of 15 friends for the trophies above, have them get super close together (wind up the chain like a snake) and then… Kaboom!
Trophy Image
15m Stack

You've climbed and climbed until you reached new heights. This trophy commemorates your 15 meter tall stack, a climb approximately the height of the Eiffel Tower.

Trophy Image
40m Stack

Congratulations! You've climbed and climbed and climbed and climbed until you reached new heights. This trophy commemorates your 40 meter tall stack. At this rate, you'll climb Mt. Everest in no time! Amazing!

For these trophies you simply need to create a very tall stack of characters. Obviously, this is much easier if you start with a tree as a base, I recommend either the pink Spring Tree as it is the easiest to climb or the Palm Tree.

Just keep stacking characters on top of each other, the taller they are already, the easier this will be. Eventually both trophies will pop.

Stage 3 – Welcome Back Everyone!

Finding every Character in Wattam

This trophy gets its own section in our Wattam Trophy Guide because you must complete the game in order to get this trophy.

Trophy Image
Welcome Home, Everyone.

trophy description

Most characters will join your collection naturally and don’t require any additional effort, but there are a few which are tricky to find or just easily missable, so I’ll list those here in the hopes of helping you unlock every character.

Prince

This character is the main protagonist of the Katamari series. You can find him on top of the Moon at the end of the game. After the credits, you’ll come back to Spring Island as the Mayor. Hop onto the nearest movable island and sail right up to the Moon.

Once there, jump and then press while in the air to grab onto the Moon’s surface, from there you can climb up to the very top where you’ll find Prince!

Noby Noby Boy

This character is the main protagonist of the Noby Noby Boy series. To unlock him, you need to take Prince to the top of the Sushi Island on the Summer stage.

Head over via movable island and then climb up to the top.

Noby Noby Boy and the Prince

You’ll struggle climbing if the island is fully extended, so take control of the Sushi Rotator island, and use to make it as short as possible. You’ll now be able to climb it. Don’t worry about the horizontal section, just keep holding and Prince will keep climbing, all the way to the top. Once up there, NobyNoby Boy will spawn and the developers will thank you for playing Wattam!

Balloons, Bowling Pin and Bowling Ball

Hopefully you completed the balloon trophy earlier and unlocked all of the balloons and also know how to cause the bowling pin to spawn.

To recap, visit each seasonal island in order once the game is complete to look for the Bowling Pin. There should be a cutscene when he arrives, but if you miss it then check every corner – he always spawns in a corner.

There is one instance per season, and after the Winter instance, instead of a balloon you will unlock both the Bowling Pin and the Bowling Ball.

Tree Fruits

Each tree can spawn many different types of fruit. Unlocking every type of fruit contributes to this trophy too.

While in control of each Tree character, make sure you eat characters and turn them into fruit until you have all fruits unlocked.

Note that the Pine Tree has the rarest drop, which is a Gingerbread Man. I found that eating a body-part, such as an eye or nose is more likely to give you a Gingerbread man, but just keep eating characters until one spawns. This is the one most people miss.

Byproducts of a tree are listed on the right. See? I’m missing the Gingerbread man in this screenshot. I’d wager you probably are too.

Types of Poop

There’s another trophy for this, so hopefully, you already did it. After finishing the game, the Mouth can spawn different sizes of poop depending on how many characters it eats before the Poop ability is used. 1 = Small, 2 = Medium, 3 = Large.

Stage 4 – Wattams 100 Meals, Poops and Kabooms Trophies

Farming Wattam’s Meal, Poop and Kaboom trophies

This stage is easier to handle once you’ve finished the game. You’ll be having such a large-scale effect on your characters that it’s easier to not have an objective which might get affected by this.

I also recommend making a separate save here, in case anything you do here causes a glitch which might affect your chances of completing stage 5 afterwards.

Note that you’ll probably have some of these from natural gameplay, but if not then you will get them here.

Here are the trophies we will be getting, all with one singular farming method:

Trophy Image
10 Times Kaboom

This is a trophy commemorating your 10th Kaboom. Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom!

Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom!

Trophy Image
100 Meals

You've eaten and eaten a total of 100 people, a feat commemorated by this trophy. It may not be an exaggeration to say that, for you, to live is to eat.

Trophy Image
After 101 Meals

Congratulations! You've eaten and eaten and as a result, you've pooped 101 times, a feat commemorated by this trophy. It may be more correct to say that to live is to eat, then digest and excrete.

So, for this method you will want a good handful of characters who are small enough to eat, all gathered on an island. You’ll also want the Mayor and maybe two of the other shape characters, also with their own hats. You’ll also want one tree and the Mouth character.

Anyone else who is not edible will likely just get in the way, so consider moving them to another island somehow.

Now, start by eating characters with the Tree and turning them into fruits. At this point, the Mouth character will go crazy and start trying to eat everyone. I am not sure if it still counts when the AI eats the fruit, or if you need to eat the fruits while you are in control of the mouth, but it is definitely better to ensure you’re in control of the Mouth for pooping, because you want 1 poop per meal, rather than 1 large poop for 3 meals.

A good way to ensure that the Mouth doesn’t start eating fruit on its own is to have it climb on top of another character. For whatever reason, when you stack them they won’t un-stack on their own, so putting him on someone’s head will stop him running rampage and eating everyone.

When there is plenty of fruit on the island, take control of the mouth and go around eating them, making sure to poop after every meal, rather than allowing them to stack into a single poop. (Good lord these are some instructions I never saw myself giving).

100 times Kaboom!

Once everyone (or nearly everyone) is a poop, take control of the Mayor or one of his bowler-hat buddies and use the magic bomb ability to turn everyone back into their base forms. Do this as many times as needed to kaboom everyone back to normal.

Now, take control of the tree again and then start the cycle again. You could be at this for about an hour depending on how much you did these individual things in your initial playthrough, so find some secondary distraction like a YouTube video or Netflix series to help make it less dull.

You can track your Kabooms and Poops via your save file. Just save the game and you will be able to see how many times you Kaboomed and Pooped at the time of saving.

The save stats for my first (and second) playthroughs.

Stage 5 – Wattam’s Struck Gold Trophy

How to Earn the “Struck Gold” Trophy in Wattam

This trophy was the worst. There are so many ways that the game can glitch or break leading up to this point and if for any reason any of the characters – such as the Snowman – become unavailable then your only solution is to start again from scratch.

I know, it sucks. It happened to me, too. That damned Snowman.

I recommend leaving this until last because you will need every character unlocked. Also, if you try to make progress on it throughout the story, it will be a waste of time as often many of the characters will return to their normal form as part of the story.

Essentially, all you need to do here is flush every character who is small enough to flush, thus turning them into gold and getting yourself this trophy:

Trophy Image
Struck Gold

This is a trophy commemorating the success of the Whole Lot o' Gold Wattam Cast Dream Project. With this, money will no longer be an issue.

Characters which do not need to be turned to Gold:

These characters are too large to be flushed or serve a purpose which stops them from being flushable. Don’t worry about trying to flush them:

  • All Islands. Seasonal, immobile islands (obviously) as well as large moveable islands are all clearly too large to be flushed and so do not need to be made into gold.
  • Toilet & Pipe (people call the Pipe a Chimney online, which doesn’t make sense. Why would a Toilet flush into a Chimney?) these are obviously how you turn characters to gold, so can’t be flushed.
  • Doll
  • Grandpa Block (big green cube guy with white facial hair)
  • House
  • Tree Fruits (You can flush them, but you don’t need to try and flush one of each type, that’s not important.)
  • Sushi Rotator/Island

Characters who are easily missed, but need to be turned to Gold:

The below characters are easy to miss for various reasons and so you should take extra care to ensure you don’t miss them:

  • Pillow – This feller needs to be turned into Fruit before he can be flushed. However, if you try to eat him during the day then you’ll find that you cannot. Making it easy to assume you don’t need to turn him to Gold. You do. You need to turn him to fruit at Night when he is awake.
  • Tree Seeds – While the Trees are obviously too large to flush, don’t forget that they can Transform back into seeds via the small brown circles found on every island. When they are in their Seed forms they can obviously be flushed.
  • SNOWMAN – This bastard is highly glitchable, check the information in the Glitch section at the top of this page for how to avoid this glitch.
  • Bowling Pin – People often state that they missed the Bowling Pin because it is already a golden colour. If you can still see the red stripe around its neck, then it has not been flushed yet, ensure you do so.

UPDATE: I had some excellent advice come up for the Snowman from SimmondsR on PSNProfiles. They suggested the following: Convert the snowman into fruit via any of the trees as soon as possible! By doing this the snowman won’t melt and disappear when they decide to wander to another location and you can breathe easy that the dumbass mound of snow will be safe when they decide to book a summer holiday. But still, make sure to save after each season after checking each character is present and accounted for, just to be safe.

If you’re missing some characters, then you probably haven’t unlocked everybody yet, refer to Stage 3 “Welcome Back Everyone” to see how to unlock the trickier characters.

Regarding the Snowman.

The devil-beast that is the Snowman character has a very high chance of glitching. I highly recommend (as stated in the Glitches section) checking whether he is still there frequently, ensuring he is on the Winter island, and saving whenever everything is still okay with him. If he goes missing and becomes greyed out in the Collection menu, then you cannot complete this trophy and must start a new game or load a previous save which has the Snowman still in existence.

When I made my second run at this trophy, what I did was put the Pipe (or chimney as some people call it) character on Winter Island. This way, every character I flushed would appear on Winter Island, and when I eventually flushed the snowman, he wouldn’t get teleported to some other island where he could melt and ultimately void the trophy, but this meant that all of the characters were in the same spot, so frames dropped and chaos ensued.

Pure Anarchy!

The Wattam Platinum Trophy

Once you’ve done all of the above trophies in this Wattam Trophy Guide, you’ll obviously net this trophy:
